Baseball sized port??

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else have their port swell up and get super hard? I am day 9 (been swollen for 3 days now though) post op & my port site is super swollen & hard as a rock. No redness or pain (just typical soreness), just hard & feels like a baseball cut in half & put inside me.

I have also been sneezing like a lunatic for some reason today & man does that HURT!! Thank God I didnt start sneezing before now!

You need to get back to your surgeon. That is NOT normal. A little swelling is normal, but if you've got a bulge the size of a small african nation under there, well, somethin's goin' on.....

If that happened to me, I would go to the ER to have it checked out. If it is infected, then you might become septic and have a whole lot worse problems.

I agree with the previous poster. If fact, that IS similiar to what happened to me. My port became infected, and it ended up popping out of my stomach, which was the beginning of a whole bunch of problems.

Go to your Doctor RIGHT AWAY.

Go to the ER and have them do an Xray or better yet a CT scan of the abdomen. Infection is a serious issue if thats what it is you need to get on antibiotics asap.

I agree as well. I am only 4 days out, but I have had very little swelling around my port and that does not sound normal. I would call the doctor immediately...

Swelling is down a little bit today. More like a large golf ball now but it is still extremely hard. I am going to call my doc in the morning. Overall I feel alot better today (day 10) But the hardness and swelling is odd & I am going to go get it looked at tomorrow for sure. I will let you all know what happens.

I was banded on the 16th. I too had a very hard roundish area around where my port was. When I went for my post op check-up, they said it was just swelling and it would go away. Now, it's just as mushy as the rest of my stomach.

But I do agree with everyone else, if it's a concern for you, definitely call your doctor or go to the hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
