Does anyone have any good or bad you can tell me about lap band at Tallgrass in Topeka?

Do they help you get approved by your insurnace company?

How do you sign up for a seminar? I have looked on the web and it tells very little about the lap band.

I am from Kansas City and am trying to make the best decision as to where to go for the lap band procedure. Any help would be appreciated!

yes, of course, they'll help you deal with insurance. It's how they get paid. They know what your insurance requires and they'll help you find a way to meet the requirements. Northwest Surgery Center has a really good page on what you need to do:

Adjustable Gastric LAP-BAND Surgery Insurance Coverage Information

If you want to learn more about Lap Bands, you should check out the manufacturer's site:

Home

As well as read as much here as you can. There is great stuff in the magazine here. Have fun.

Hello, I had my lap band surgery by Dr. Joseph Petelin associated with Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He is outstanding!!! I am not familiar with Tall Grass. But there are quite a few great drs. (by reading different boards) in KC. Good luck to you.

I am going through Tallgrass with Dr. Steward. He is really sweet and straight frwd and answer all ur questions. They give you everything that you will need to have ur insurance accept it. Attend a seminar first and how you do that is to call them. Then you call ur insurance co to make sure that they answer all the ins and outs of getting the lapband....if they cover it...how much of it do they cover...do they cover pre op appts, consultation, fills, etc. If they require a 6 month diet etc....then you call ur reg doc and ask him his opinion if he will ok the surgery. Tallgrass made me do a psych eval, meet with a dietician, get approval from reg doc, quitting smoking if you're a smoker, etc. My reg doc for him to approve it he wanted me to get a sleep test done as well as Dr. Steward.

If you do decide to go to a seminar take a notepad with you. When I called Tallgrass they set me up to go to a seminar that is how you do that part at least.

good luck to you sweetie and welcome to lbt!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
