renorocket 0 Posted April 27, 2008 I was banded Tues April 22. Four days ago. I jumped on the scale today and have gained 3 lbs. What's up with that. I'm following all of the rules. Hardly eating anything.:smile2:
StaceyM 0 Posted April 27, 2008 I didn't but my dr warned me that it happens a lot. They said not to come home and get weighed after the surgery as a lot of people gain weight due to swelling and Water retention. It's probably not actual weight so don't worry about it! renorocket 0 Posted April 27, 2008 thanks and I 'm new at this how do you get the ticker meter started (if that is what it is called)_
luv10nis 0 Posted April 27, 2008 To get the ticker started click on hers and it should take you to the website. Also, in between my pre-op appt. and my first fill, 4 weeks, I only lost 1 lb. I thought I had gained though. I had been eating everything under the sun. JUNK, JUNK, and more junk. The weight will start to come off.
Luscious 1 Posted April 27, 2008 (edited) Given that it takes 3,500 calories to add 1 pound of actual fat, its highly unlikely to be body fat weight. The scales are not your friend right now :-) Best wishes on your journey. Edited April 27, 2008 by Luscious
Fanny Adams 7 Posted April 27, 2008 Many of us gained just after surgery, with the most common time around 2 weeks post-op. I think it is a combination of several things: 1) some of the weight we lost in our pre-op and immediate post-op was just Fluid and the body eventually balances this out, causing a slight regain 2) the body does go into that starvation mode shock, when you drop the calorie level down as drastically as the post-op liquid diet dictates (I gained 3lb when I was averaging 4-500 cal a day!) 3) if you are eating a lot of canned Soup (very high sodium) or putting extra salt on your Soup to try to boost the flavour (like I did), you retain a LOT of extra Water, which is reflected in the scales. For me, I lost 15lb in 15 days - 10 days pre-op, 5 days post-op, then gained and lost 3lb over and over again for the next 15 days. It was 20 days post-op (30 from starting to lose) before I dipped below the 15lb lost marker again, but since then it has been slow and steady. Don't panic if this happens to you - it seems to be pretty normal for many people and will happen no matter what you do! Mind you, cutting out the salt did help to some extent. SHARONCRIST1955 0 Posted April 27, 2008 I am so afraid that I will not lose weight. I know that I have put on a couple of pounds since my weight. I was swollen in the beginning but now I have just put it on. I have been trying so hard. My first fill is April 29, 2008l.
Sue Magoo 71 Posted April 27, 2008 Hi: I gained 9 pounds in 3 days post surgery. It was Fluid retention and it took about a week to ten days to get rid of it. You'll probably pee it out in the next few days. Don't get discouraged. Take care. Sue
