I faced my biggest challenge since being banded!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on 4/8 and I actually feel great and have felt great for at least a week. Even so, I have thought of a million excuses for not doing some kind of exercise. I hate exercise, but know it is very important in this journey. I've seen many banders post that it is the one area they are lacking in.

Today I did it. I went out this morning and walked for 35 minutes! I feel so pumped now, I'm even thinking of doing it again tonight when it cools down some (I live in S. Florida).

I know this will help with weight loss and I am determined to do a 30 minute brisk walk at least 5 times a week. I was very down earlier this week when I didn't lose anything the 2nd week and I've decided to wait to weigh now until May 6 which is my birthday and my 4 week banding anniversary.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my little victory for the day.

Alice

Congratulations 23_28_116.gif

I was a total slug bug -couch potato prior to banding

I joined the gym around the corner from my house right before I got banded and i started out slow - 20 - 30 minutes - and now I do 1 hr about twice a week and I have a trainer twice a week. I truly believe that my exercising has contributed greatly to my success in getting this weight off.

Keep up the good work :w00t:

boy can I relate! I was banded on April 7 and have been de-motivated to do any exercise...and my only ongoing 'pain' is around my port incision - really gets sore as the day goes on. your message hit me as it's all in my attitude...if I'd get up and walk I would feel better about it....

thanks for the inspiration! this is a new normal and a new journey for us both...best wishes on your new you!

Here is a little motivator that my trainer gave me

"It's not that you can't do it - It's that you THINK you can't do it"

I love this - I am going to put it on my signature...

Alice, way to go! You will drop weight very quickly if you walk everyday and will feel so good. Keep pushing yourself and you will find that you might even like it.

I used to exercise a lot but then had a leg injury 8 years ago and got heel spurs which makes it very painful to even walk. I actually liked to exercise because I felt good afterwards and found it to be a challenge to push myself more. I recently started riding an exercise recumbant bike and it feels so good.

Congratulations, Alice 150!!

Remember the Chinese proverb about a journey beginning with a single step. You have taken it! Actually, the first three weeks trying to get into an exercise routine are the most difficult. Once you get past that point, it's a habit you won't want to break. Find something you want to do and do it! Living in S. Florida I know you have lots of options. So keep walking until you find what you find the exercise that you can't wait to do each day. And if walking is that exercise, increase your mileage to keep those calories burning.

Excellent!

And it's not just a small victory....it's a BIG one! Exercise is a hard habit to get into, but it is KEY in this journey you are on.

One thing you have to keep in mind, and something that a LOT of people miss is that you are NOT trying to get slim....you are trying to get HEALTHY. If you are truly healthy, then your body weight will be normal. Think of it in those terms. And a BIG part of being healthy lies in exercising. So, it is an important component of the entire formula.

Exercise can be hard at first, especially if it is something you have not done much of before. I used to listen to music when I exercised, and I still do. But, you kind of get tired of listening to music after a while, so one thing that really helped me a great deal is listening to audiobooks. Virtually anything in print is available in audiobook format, and you can actually get an education in some things just by listening. Get an MP3 player, and get walking!

But DO keep exercising. It's CRUCIAL to your weight loss and overall health.

Awesome, Alice!!

My husband just about fell over when I parked at the 'further' spaces at Target today.:smile2: I pinched him.

Congrats on kicking butt and getting out there!

Go get yourself some new sneaks so you look spiffy out there on the block.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
