Getting Rid of Clothes

Recommended Posts

My closet has shirts and dresses from size xl to 26. At this point in my weight loss, its time for me to clean it out... cant wear 3/4's of it!

Now, Im NOT a sentimental person, but I am poor - and clothes are expensive! So in the back of my mind I keep thinking that I need to bag these things that are too big and store them - dont get rid of any of it - because my band may break, erode, slip - whatever my mind can think of - ultimately gaining this weight back and THEN having no clothes to wear.

Anyone else going through this?

I'm totally opposite of that Paula. I gladly shuck too large clothes out the door and do a jig while I do it. LOL I can't wait to sell off the last remnants of my largest sized clothes on Ebay.

Paula, I know what you're going through, because I've been on countless diets and I usually held onto most of my biggest clothes even after losing 70 lbs. Good thing I did, too, because those pounds climbed back. But this time I'm chucking everything, including a few things that still sort of fit but just don't look good on me anymore. The band has given me new confidence about keeping the weight off, even on those days (like today) when I give into my ice-cream and/or chocolate jones. I don't know how much weight I'll lose, but whether I shed another 50 or stay right where I am now (sigh!), it's staying off this time. Giving away clothes has been an act of liberation!

Z

PS: Kyleigh, your box of summer stuff is in the trunk of my car waiting for me to ship it tomorrow.

Paula, get rid of those "forever too big" clothes, girl! I couldn't wait to chunk all that stuff and gladly donated some really nice stuff to a rehab facility. Haven't you changed your tastes in clothing since you lost weight? And Foleys or Palais Royal is always having a great sale. I've met you, there's no way you'll be wearing a 26 again!

I am telling yaaaaaaa... advertise a "big ladies size" garage sale and they will come in herds (no pun intended, well ok maybe it was a bad pun). My mom and sister have done this a couple of times to raise money for different charities or support groups and have done FANTASTIC! We all know that larger lady fashions cost a bit more/are harder to find so they WILL come (be aware of early birds too!). Or, you can use the money you raise to go out and splurge on YOUR SIZE!!

Hi! I'm kind of in the middle. I lost 80 pounds twice and got rid of the larger clothes each time. Then had to go out and rebuy sizes larger and larger after I had gotten down to my goal after I started gaining weight again.

This time however, I learned what I did wrong (ok, one of the things) was I will NEVER wear any pants with a stretch waist ever again once I am down to my goal. Then when they start to get tight, (if they start to get tight) I will immediately put myself on a strict food/behavior modification program. Plus, I'm not getting any younger and it is harder each time to lose it. THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME I DO IT!!! (this is reinforcement for myself!!!)

I still think we should have a forum area about clothes where we can post sizes we are getting rid of and give to another bandster. If I don't give to another bandster, I'll donate them or sell the ones with tags on eBay I guess.

I bought a few size L clothes last fall for the summer when on sale for a couple bucks each- but they are even loose. I say chuck them or garage sale or ebay and go to good will/other type till you get closer to goal. I recently found out that a 10 lb difference at this weight is a whole lot in a size as we get smaller.

I am sitting here in a 3x/4x lands end short out fit, and twice today adrian has "pulled my pants down" by tugging on them. I keep hoping to wait a little longer to get some summer stuff.

So have fun!!!! And shop responsibly

ps- I got to get on a small persons mailing list. I am too small for sillouttes and I love there clothes (OK their pants will fit my A$$ is still to big)

Put all that stuff on ebay or craigslist.org and shimmy around in your skivvies until you decide to buy somethign new...if you don't want new go to ebay and find something gently worn...its just one big ole clothing garage sale and I've personally bought some tremendously nice things on ebay. Don't be afraid to ditch the fat clothes...heck I did it before my surgery and refuse to buy another thing until I can get something smaller...jumping the gun I know but I'm the eternal optimist.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
