I am scheduled for May 9th with the Realize band...which was approved in the US last year sometime. The main difference is less erosion and less chance of slippage. The support system they provide is also supposed to be great! My surgeon is actually being proctored by the manufacture on my surgery. You should look into it.

I am going to get the Realize band. After getting nowhere with my insurance or the VA, I am going to dig under my couch for money to self pay. I see the dietician and physical therapist on May 8th and Dr pre-op consult and hosp preadmission on May 22 and surgery on June 1st or 3rd. Its amazing how quickly things start to happen when the doc's smell cash. To my understanding, the Realize band has a flatter port and less prone to 'flipping.' In exchange for being one of the first to get this one (he's done gobs of other lapband surgeries, tho), I get free fills for life if I go to the Realize band website and keep track of my food and exercise there regularly. Sounds fair to me! Can't wait to get banded!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
