Post-op pain...I'm miserable

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...I am eight days post-op now and still in a lot of pain in the port area. I tried to go back to work yesterday only to call in sick today. I have no sick time left so I HAVE to go back tomorrow. Did any of you have this type of severe pain at the port site, and if so, how long did it last? My doctor will not refill my Lortab...only Ultracet which doesn't help.

I had some discomfort at my port site (had to wear dresses not tight pants) but nothing that equated to real pain that i would need actual pain meds for..

If you are in that much pain - I would go in and see your doctor.

I can't go until Wednesday but I talked to the nurse. She said that pain at the port site is a common complaint. I don't have pain in any of the other incisions but that one.

I'm 4 weeks out as well and my large port incision is still sore. My doc said about a month and it is getting better. Now I have a terrible catch in my side, like I have been running. been for 2 days. Dunno what it is :w00t: I hope you get to feeling better.

The pain level isn't changing from day to day. It is still hard to stand up and walking is painful. I really hope that this improves by the time I see the Dr. on Wednesday!

80's chick: I had the same problem. It's amazing how you think you're fine at home and then when you really start using all those core muscles, you realize the truth! I had a hard time the first few days back to work (I have a physical job). This week was much better...until I sneezed!!! OMG! That was last night, and I've been in pain ever since. Holy crap! I didn't realize I needed to hold my port site to sneeze!

It will get better, but if you are so uncomfortable that normal movement is a problem, I would definitely see the doctor! Sorry you are in pain. :(

I am actually feeling a little better. I am taking Ultram for the pain. It just hurts when I first stand up. I am still bruised! I thought that would go away by now. I think it is just taking forever to heal, but I am in touch with my doctor for sure!

Darling you just had major frickin sugery - give it time - you aren't healing slow - I know my burises were there for a while - I don't know what Ultram is - but becareful taking narcotics for too long - they will slow down your healing too..

Follow your food plan - get your Protein & vitimans and don't try and run a marathon tomorrow:lol: and you will be just fine..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
