so lets start with me... 26, 5'9 and at 285 :crying: with a bmi of 42. i started gaining weight only about 3 yrs ago after i had my beautiful baby girl. I have tried diets i just cant seem to keep the weight off, im hungry all the damn time i cant seem to get a break,.... the weight justs keep piling on. Obesity runs in my family..moms side not to mention that she also has a gentic muscle desease called central core desease thats in the legs, which i have it, and my poor daughtor has it also. I walked normal and everything you wouldnt know it until i started to walk upstrairs our get off of the floor our attempt to run stuff like that. So with the weight problem my muscle problem gets worse. So i wanted to try to talk to my dr about this surgery, but im scared because i havent been overweight for all my life. But then again i cant get rid of the weight because i cant really work out like normal people. I just really hope the ins will get approved, i go to talk to my dr on the 1st.

definatly talk to your dr. before you do anything. If you have insurance be prepared to jump thru hoops for them. They don't make it easy for anyone to get any weight lose surgery. good luck.

Hi Ready,

I feel for you! I am 39 and after the birth of my daughter 5 years ago was diagnoised with Rhumetoid Arthritis. Before that, I was a size 16 - did not gain with the pg, lost 20lbs after. When I got the RA, I stopped moving (and started eating more & more to comfort myself).

Well, here I am a size 24 and getting closer and closer to 300lbs:sad:.

I call it my vicious circle~ I need to loose weight, to do that, I need to move. I cannot move until I loose weight. The RA is never going to improve unless I loose weight, I will never loose weight without this surgery.

Its taken me over a year to get here, but I am having surgery THIS WEDNESDAY!!

Take your time, do lots of research ~ this site is fantastic!! when I found it, I knew this surgery was for me!

Keep us posted on your progress!

Kelly

p.s. you should see me using the stairs & getting up off the floor or even a chair! its comically sad!:crying:

thanks for your replys, this site is really cool bc a lot of people in here can relate. Im so scared bc of the ins just denying me, but my mom tells me to think positive, she had gastric bypass and bc of the muscle disease they just approved her. So i dont know im just so ready to not be fat anymore i hate it. Its just that nobody has ever heard of the muscle disease before so it sucks trying to tell my dr about it when he doesnt even now about. The dr that find it in my mom has already past away so i cant go to him

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
