Was My PB Normal?

Recommended Posts

This morning I had a particularly rough PB. This is my second and like the first time, I PB'd because I was eating too fast and bites that were too big. You'd think I'd have learned by now. . .

However, this morning was different because it was actually quite painful. It was painful right before I started the PB (sorry, gross I know) and then I had pretty bad pain mid chest level extending into my back for about two hours after the PB.

Is this normal? Are your PB's similarly painful? I feel fine right now and of course I'm doing liquids until at least tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your advice!

Yep. I get the shoulder/back/upper chest pain when I've eaten too fast or too large bites. Though, as I'm getting more accustomed, I've PB'd less and now get aches lower. I must be chewing better but still eating too much....

I get really crazy pain too. That is usually how I know I need to PB. Then after the pain slowly subsides. This just started for me about a week ago. Went from 3cc to 4cc in a 10cc band. Seems crazy that 1cc can make that big of a difference.

Sounds normal to me. I think that the band gives us that pain just as a reminder to slow down, eat tiny bites, and chew everything to death!

Hopefully it won't happen again anytime soon.

Take care.

Sue

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
