I was told Mercy hospital has a support group, my doctor never told me to go to nutritionist or anything. Anyone been what type of things did they tell you to do? food wise excercise, vitamins, etc????I went to a dietician and she was telling me to eat bread and all things we not really suppose to eat so no damb help at all, and she had me on massive calories, said you dont need any Vitamins.< /p>

Hi Slimmy,

I'm sure someone can answer your question about the support groups in WA - they seem to be located all over the place.

If I may make an observation (with all good intentions)..... you post a lot of questions about what to eat, how much, etc. You say in this post that the dietician you saw didn't help you much. Perhaps you need to ring your doctor who did your banding (last September I think) and ask to be referred to a dietician who works with lap band patients and knows the right things to eat, portions, etc. You have done great to lose over 60 pounds, but I get the feeling you are doing it without a really good understanding of what is best for you to eat nutrition-wise. Keep hounding your health care professionals until you get the answers you need.

A support group would be a great thing. I also think that some GOOD professional advice would be very beneficial also.

Best wishes, and keep up your good work.

Yes been trying to do it on own basically as too what to eat,the dietician i wen't too basically was giving me advice on what normally people should be eating all the breads and all but did not take into account my lap band, my surgeon says i don't need any thing special just eat less of everything, avoid the dairy, my body will tell me what not right for me. Will have a good talk to my gp again and explain my concerns as want to know i am doing the right things, will tell her what i have heard about mercy hospital lap band followup info and see what she can do for me.

If the dietician didn't help you much, it might be an idea to see one who is familiar with wls patients rather than just a regular dietician. The one I have seen is excellent, if you would like her name, let me know.

I am not sure if there are any official support groups in WA, but there are a lot of 'unofficial' ones. There is a big group from the yahoo lap-band board that meet up at Kings Park every Sunday and a few others as well, made up of people who have been banded.

We are also hoping to start up an informal support group for people who have the gastric sleeve (some of who are band revisions).

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
