Whats up with all the gas!!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Monday and was able to start on my liquids on Tuesday just before going home. The gas has gotten really bad and my stomach sounds alien like:crying:. Is this normal? I thought once I ate some creamy Soups and Jello it would get better but it hasn't. Do I need to be concerned?

Take some gas-x to help relieve the gas. It is normal and can stay with you for a few weeks. At times becoming uncomfortable. Hang in there, the gas will pass!

Thanks, I'll have the husband pick me up some today. I know I'd read in here some where long ao about the gas, but had no idea that it would be like this. I plan to go back to work on Monday so will take the Gas-x

I'm so glad to have this site to turn to for answers.

Thanks again!

I have had pretty bad gas for the last couple of weeks. They do inflate your belly and from what I've read, the gas in your abdomen makes it's way into your digestive system to be expelled. I had both pain in my back and shoulder and stomach, and discomfort in my intestines from about day 3 after my surgery to just after the 2 week mark. I am almost at the end of 3 weeks now, and I still get a bit of air buildup in my digestive tract, but I think it's from the normal movements of eating and digesting. I only get pain in my shoulder now if I hiccup, or eat too fast. So it does get better, thank goodness!! :biggrin2:

The Gas-X does help also. I got some yesterday and have taken it to get rid of some of the gas. I'm also feeling pressure on my shoulders from what I'm guessing is from the gas.

I went to my pc doctor today for a check up and I checked out okay! Now to just get through this 2 wks of post op diet.....don't get me wrong it hasn't been to bad, but I have another 11 days of this...YIKS! My energy level is down too! I have not taken anymore of the pain meds due to me not feeling very well yesterday and I've been alot better today. My doctor suggested that I just take Tylenol if I need anything for pain.

I just can't wait to start seeing some real results from all this effort that I have done to get this far. I'm sure you all feel the same way, but as you can see from those who post on these threads we will soon enough.

I'm 5 months out and still have gas. It's not the painful bloating type like after surgery, just regular gas, but much more frequent. Many of us bandsters have it. It goes with the territory. My husband has a joke now that a duck lives in our house that I constantly step on. Like the Aflac duck..... Ha Ha Ha..... real funny. I can burp like a sailor now too!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
