I can't believe I did it!

Recommended Posts

Hi All- I can't believe I am banded. I had surgery on Monday, 4/21 & I also had a hernia repaired. I feel great just sore. It was actually more painful giving birth to my son. Well , when will I feel different.

I don't know why but I keep getting on the scale daily to see if I lost weight. I know it has only been 2 days but I don't remember the last time I had something to eat, that wasn't liquid....... When do you start to see results on the scale?

Just a warning that they give you alot of IV fluids in the surgery and overnight in the hospital so I'd wait at least 4-5 days before hopping on the scale or else you might see a surprise gain followed by a loss then. Congrats on your banding.

you will be bloated and have gas. I used to way my self everyday, it gets kida silly after a while. The first 10-15 pounds will be Water etc. after that excerise will help get the weight down. Don't be in a hurry to loose, you will need time to heal. I weigh in tmw, and have been really working hard, but remember musle weighs more than fat!. and muscle will burn cal when not working out.

good luck

I gopt banded on 4/21 as well. Just a little sore. I had a fairly significant hernia that also got repaired. I was nervous going in, but I saw a picture of myself taken over the weekend and realized this was the thing to do. I am looking forward to losing the weight and getting healthy. Can't wait to eat a little something. Any good advice out there on when and what to eat.

I was banded 4/21 too! I'm not feeing as bad as I thought I would at this point, just a little tender around the incisions. Going to the bathroom is weird, all the watery poop w/gas. But I guess that's due to all the liquid. I am starting full liquids today and lemon yogurt never tasted so good! It did take awhile to eat, but I was able to eat it all. I sort of wonder if the band is there (but I know it is) - I thought I'd get full by about half way thru. The hard part is not drinking while eating.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
