Anyone work for Intel and Have united Health care ?

Recommended Posts

My mom works for Intel and has united Health care. My dad is looking into having WLS . He is undecided between LB and RNY . I obviously would rather him have the band.

But they are unsure if their united health care pays for the band or RNY ?

Im too impatient to wait . Does anyone know ? All i know is they have PPO but I know someone else that has UHC PPO and it did NOT pay for the band .

Thanks

Mindy

Your best bet is to call the insurance company and see if they have any exclusions or riders on the policy. Ask specifically for the lap-band and the bypass. Or, if you can't get a straight answer (which sometimes you can't) you can always have your family dr submit a letter of medical necessity with the appropriate Diagnosis and Procedure codes for each option and then wait and see what sort of decision comes back from the insurance company. That process can take awhile because insurance companies love to drag their feet! Good luck!

I understand all that . But as I said Im impatient and was curious if anyone here worked for Intel so I could find out myself ! Its not for me its for my dad! I have already had the surgery

They will possibly find out on their own . But i wanted to find out on my own as well. My mom is going to try to find out as well. As i stated I am impatient and wanted to see if anyone on here worked for Intel and had UHC and could tell me !

Thanks for your input

Well...you are just going to have to be patient. Either call yourself or have whoever has the insurance do it. Having the group # will help as well as the insureds ID that is on their card.

Im not a patient person. I was talking to my mom last night and she's not the most positive supportive person . Well she IS but she just does not come off that way , if that makes sense. im afraid if she does not check into this and keep up with it for my dad he will let it go.

I think if he finds out insurance will pay for it he'll do it .

Im terribly afraid he's going to die from his weight , he's really starting to think about this and if she's not going to support him or keep putting road blocks in his way the way she is he wont do it . I know him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
