afraid to give away "fat clothes"????

Recommended Posts

I took some blouses out of my closet today that are just too big to wear now-yeah!!!!!!!!!! However, I found that I was having a hard time putting them in the box to take to Goodwill. I guess I can't believe I won't regain the weight like so many times before. Anyone else having a hard time getting rid of the "fat clothes"?

You must do what your heart tells you to do. In my case, I tossed my thin clothes when fat, and am tossing my fat clothes as I get thinner.

Nope! I LOVE ditching the fat clothes now that I'm confident that I won't gain this weight back (like I've always done in the past).

I know it is hard not to think about failure when so many times many of us have failed. Get rid of the 'fat clothes' and don't give yourself a reason to get back into them.

BTW, you are doing great for being just over a month since having surgery!

I think it depends on how you look at the clothes themselves. I know that I like my clothes, I didn't want to buy new, so I took them to a tailor and got "new" clothes. Are they smaller, yes. I have had other items that are now too big that I passed on. Some of my lingerie that my hubby liked is WAY too big now...so I gave it to a friend.

So, it's a personal decision. I decided that if I had no fat clothes, then I'm less likely to slip up. But...the decision is yours. Good luck.

I just did this the other day, too.

At first i was like, "kick ass, look at all this stuff that doesnt fit, YAY!" then...i ran accross my favorite pair of fat pants, pants that i worked hard at stretching out and yet i thought they looked "good". I thought, "man, what IF i get this big again? Then I wont have these around...i should save them" but then i thought, "Screw that, ill never be that big again" It's still hard to believe because it seems like ive been big for so long.

I say get rid of them. Cleanse your closet.

I still have all my clothes. I have the entire upstairs empty so it's not like I don't have room for them. I keep thinking the band is too good to be true. I am such a worrier. I hear of people with complications that lose their bands. I am pretty much to the point now that if something went wrong with my band, I would convert to another surgery.

I was thinking of that the other day too. I'm not that far post-op yet, but I've held onto so many clothes whether they're fat or thin clothes that it's just going to be great to clean my closet and drawers out! Good luck with your decision though.

I am a little scared to start ditching mine, its just seems to good to be true! I have already started pulling them out of the closet and packing them in boxes though! Maybe if I leave them packed up after a while when i realize I am not going to gain the weight right back, maybe then I can part with them. I work in an office and I had to buy nice clothes so part of me is thinking just alter them to fit rather than get rid of them, but then the other side of me is like, toss em, buy new cute clothes! Its a hard decision!!

Hi! I used Dr. Marsden too! I had the same problem getting rid of fat clothes at first so put them in bags and set them to the side. I did come to a point that I realized it was ridiculous to keep them because of the amount of clothes I was having to buy to replace them since they were falling off.

If it makes you feel better to keep them then do it, you wont keep them long :tt2: What was weird for me was giving them to my best friend because we had always worn about the same size. She was happy to get free clothes but it made me feel weird because I was afraid of hurting her feelings with all my weight loss, which I never did because she is a kick butt friend.

I have just started to run into this myself (yeah!). I was talking to the nurse at my bariatric center and she said....get rid of them, you're never going back there again! I feel like this: If there is something you particularly loved, try to have it altered. I think I will divide stuff into 2 piles, the give-away pile (Goodwill, church, etc.) and the good pile. I have clothes that I paid a lot for and are still in very good if not new condition. I was thinking I would take those to a local consignment shop and see if I could get a little money for them and put that towards buying new things. Whatever you decide, congrats on being a loser! LOL :biggrin2:

Funny this topic should come up! I went into my closet to get my clothes out for work and the pole had come down from the weight of all my "clothes collection". Upon emptying out the closet and fixing the pole my husband asked when I was getting ride of all these clothes that were to big for me! He said (and he's right) that 75% of the shirts I have are so big they fall off my shoulders and show my bra straps! Of course I told him I would but didn't have the time right at that moment. Guess this will be my weekend project!

I don't like taking clothes to the Goodwill because they sell them, I think I'll bring them down to the shelter and see if they can use them.

Have to save money to replentish my closet so it won't look so empty! :tt2:

Gone in sixty seconds!

As soon as they're too big.....they're outta here!

If it's nice stuff, like some Ralph Lauren that I had....it goes to ebay.

If it's garden variety.....goes to the thrift store!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
