Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Band virgin in the south

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally took the plunge today. I had a consultation with a bariatric surgeon after attending the bariatric surgery center's seminar and I'm going to DO IT!!!

I've been heavy all my life, tipped the scales at 299 today, my divorce will be final on May 21st, leaving me a single mom to four kids, and darnit, I am going to do this for myself. The next 20 years or so will be focused on raising my babies, but this, again, is for me. I'm tired of wearing a fat suit and having every single thing I do overshadowed by my awareness of being the fat girl in the room. I'm tired of being relieved when someone fatter than I am is around. I'm tired of not being able to shop in the stores I want or even feeling the salespeople look at me askance when I take my teenage daughter shopping. Nothing quite like that, "What's that fatty doing in THIS store?" look, is there?

So that's my emancipation speech! I should have my surgery date within the next two weeks, once I get my financing (self-pay!) together and my psych eval done. I'm so excited that I'm giddy! And thank you all for helping me make my decision. I've lurked for a while and been incredibly moved by your stories and your dedication and your struggles. Hopefully one day soon I can inspire someone as well!

Thanks for an awesome forum!:blushing:

Wow.. good luck in your journey! I love your very heartfelt sentiments! I too am soooo very tired of being fat. For the very first time I got on a small plane this summer and the seat beat would not fasten! I was in a panic! My husband (who has NEVER said a word about my weight) just looked at me. I had tears in my eyes as I hid the seatbelt so no one would see. The most hurtful was looking at my husband in panic. That did it for me. The happy news was the next plane the seat belt fit.. as did the others, at the very end. but I'll never forget that feeling.. nor the look in his eyes.

We all have hugh pains as the "fatty"... that's why we are all here. Just keep up that attitude!!

Molly

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
