Ok, so my biggest fear with this surgery is what happens to the skin when you lose weight. I am 233 now and don't have any hanging skin, but obviously I have skin that will have to go somewhere after I start losing weight.

Is it possible to exercise and keep that looking ok or is it a definite that you have to have the skin removed after you lose the weight? Does insurance cover that surgery if they cover the initial Lap Band?

Its not definite that you'll need further surgery.

I think its highly highly unlikely that you wont have *any* lose skin but whether its a problematic amount or not is down to luck. I have loose skin but not problematic amounts of it. So I'll never be a swimsuit model, big deal. But I dont have to tuck my stomach into my pants either, so it is possible!

There are several factors that will determine whether or not you might have sagging skin. The more weight you have to lose, the longer you have been overweight and the faster you lose will contribute to sagging or non sagging skin. I know that I will have extra skin because I have been this weight for about 10 years and I have 150 lbs to lose. I can tell that my tummy already sags even though I haven't lost a lot. For a long time I thought I couldn't handle the sag but I would rather have it than the fat.

Exercise will help some people. Insurance will normally pay for the surgery to remove it if there is a medical reason. If it is for purely cosmetic reasons, they won't cover it.

There are many factors that go into the whole saggy skin - Your age - how long you have been over weight - DNA (this is the biggest factor)

Think of a garbage bag put in a ten pound weight - leave it there for a short time then take it out - the bag goes back into shape

Now take 80 lbs and leave the weights in the garbage back for a few years - take it out the bag will not go back into shape.

Exercise works your muscles not your skin - building more muscle fills the space where the fat was and your skin - but it's not going to firm your skin,

What's more important - saggy skin - or your health?? Saggy skin is not going to kill you but that fat will - put it into perspective..

I have grandma boobs (I am a Grandma :scared2:) but with proper bra they look good - I have a little flap on my tummy nothing spanxs doesn't take care of. My arms - will that's another story - but I just don't go sleeveless.

Heck we don't live in Eden where we would be walking around naked - (thanks Eve :blushing:) We walk around clothed - so most of the flabby skin is covered up..

I feel 10 yrs younger - Look 100% better - and God willing have extended my life span - and this was the whole purpose of my getting the band. The better looks is secondary to me.

There are always plastic surgeons - but insurance will not cover them unless it's medically necessary - (rashes under your apron if you have one)

So the real question should be - What's Important to you... Your health or a little flabby skin??

Hi,

I know my Dr. showed me photo's of people that exercised and people that didn't and there was a huge difference in the skin factor. It's a small factor considering the benefits of the weight loss but, exercise should definitely help.

Blessing to you on your journey,

Sally

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
