Who has a band for many years?

Recommended Posts

I am considering having the lapband surgery but (being a cautious person) am wondering what it might be like having a lapband longterm.....say 5yrs,10yrs,15yrs?

Does anyone out there know ?:glare::scared2::Dancing_biggrin:

The longest I know is under 10 yrs. It hasn't been done that long in the US, so you'd probably have to look internationally for someone who has had it longer than 5 or so years. 2001 were the FDA trials, so that's going to be your limit stateside, unless you can find someone who left the country to have it done before it was approved here.

I Am Concerned About The Same Thing. I Know This Is To Much Info But.... I Have An Iud And It Can Not Stay Inside My Womb No Longer Than 10 Years Because Of Health Risks...no Longer Works....and Can Grow To Me....so In A Way Isn't The Lap Band About The Same? Foreign Object Inside Your Body Thats Not Replacing Anything....like A Rod Or Something In Your Leg....

But Its To Late Now..i Get Banded On The 30th Of April

I am from Canada, was banded at the Toronot Laproscopic Band Clinic (tlbc.ca). Before I was banded, I asked for long term studies and Kathy, the patient coordinator emailed me two. One was an 8 year and I can't remember if the second one was a 5 year or a 10 year. You could probably contact them via the website and ask them to send the studies to you... they're really quite helpful.

I was banded in Australia in Jan of 04 so I am over the 4 year mark but don't know if there are a lot of ppl here (in the US) who have had it long term either. You could try posting this probably on an Australian forum (I think one exists on here) as the surgery has been performed there for a longer time than in the US. I believe Germany has also been doing it for quite some time. Hope this helps!!

I asked my doctor about this. He said there is positive info. from Europe on long term studies. My doctor said that it will be hard to find a support group of long term bandsters because once they have it for a couple of years, they have the hang of it, move on and don't need much support. I wish there was one. I'd love to talk to someone who has had it for years.

Hi!

I was banded Dec, 2001 at Cedars-Sinai in L.A. I lost about 120 lbs. going from 290 to 170ish. I did have some reflux and had my band completely unfilled for awhile. I also became pregnant at that time with my first baby and gained about 40+ pounds from my lowest point. I am currently pregnant with my second and have kept my band unfilled due to acid reflux, horrendous "morning" sickness and have only gained about 10 pounds. I am almost 7 months along with baby #2. I plan on getting a small fill approximately 6 weeks after my c-section. I have maintained a loss of about 50 lbs+ even with 2 pregnancies so not too bad. I will need to lose another 50 after this baby but have no doubt I will be able to do it with the right fill, exercise and eating better! Good luck to you.

Jenn
