can band slip and correct itself weekly?

Recommended Posts

Here's my story.... my question is at the end.

I have been vomitting for several months now. Not every day but at least once a week. It's up to twice and sometimes 3 times a week. At times I can eat, what I think is a lap-band size portion, 1 cup... or say one slice of pizza. Then there are times I can't eat 5 crackers, or even take a slip of Water.< /p>

If I didn't know any better, I would say my band is o.k. for a week, then I may eat too much and vomit. That seems to set me up for a cycle of vomitting. For the next 3 -4 days I will barely eat anything and have to make myself vomit.

I never know when I'm going to get sick. It seems the junk food (Cookies, donuts, chips) goes down but when I try to eat healthy, chicken, steak, pork, it gets stuck. I have not gained weight but I'm not eating much either. I try to get at least one Protein Drink and one Protein Breakfast bar down a day.

My question, can my band slip for a few days, correct itself for a week and then slip again for a few days, correct itself for 2 days and slip again. Or does a band not move around that much. If it slips, does it stay slipped, it might correct itself once, but doesn't move that much. Oh I did have my fill removed over two months ago and I'm still getting sick/vomitting.

I had an upper gi series but it was inconculsive. Then had an endoscopy two weeks ago, band not eroded and just had ultrasound today to check for gallstones.. none. I'm thinking another upper gi series. Is there another test they could do to check for a slippage? Any info would be great.

Sounds like an esophogram would give you all the answers you're looking for. Did your doctor perform one yet on you ?

I think the cycle you are having is more like this: you eat something that gets stuck and you throw up. Your stomach swells and that makes every subsequent meal more difficult, until you are on liquids for a few days and it has a chance to mellow out.

You might also talk to your doctor about the possibility of a hiatal hernia (that would be in the area near your band). I've heard of those causing trouble before too.

To answer your question directly, I have not heard of a band slipping and unslipping multiple times that quickly.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
