Hello from Northwest Ohio

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Tess, this is my first post on the lbt. I've been reading for the past year in preparation for the surgery. I'm excited to be here! I go for my 6 week post op visit today, and am hoping to get the date for my first fill! Looking forward to meeting and chatting with everyone.

Hi Tess

I am also from Ohio (Akron area). I have been visiting this site also for about a year. I am scheduled for surgery on May 1. My process has gone fast. It only took about a week for me to get approved. I learned a lot by visiting this site so when I went to my first consult with the surgeon, I was well prepared and knew what to expect. With all that being said, I am still very nervous about the surgery. I finally realized that it is because we are put thru so much testing and given so much more information then for any other surgery. Which is a good thing.

Hi ladies and welcome to LBT!

Congratulations on getting your band Tess! How did things go at the doctor's today? Did you get that fill?

Glad the approval moved through so quickly for you Hazel! May 1st will be here before you know it and you will be off posting on the post-op thread. Is your doctor requiring any sort of pre-op diet?

Good luck to you both!

Hi Everyone-- nice to meet you. I went for my appt and found out that the first one will be done at the hospital and I'll have to schedule it for a Monday. I'll have to do some juggling with my work schedule though. I did loose another 4 pounds the past 2 weeks even though I have nothing in my band yet. No regrets about the surgery! I understand what Hazel means about being bombarded with information... but you can never arm yourself with too much knowledge!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
