I've been waiting and waiting! My seminar is tomorrow, just the start of a very long journey! Just wanted to share my excitement with everyone!

Good Luck! Don't forget to take notes and maybe even come prepared with a list of questions you might want to ask. I remember wishing I could just meet with the doc one on one and not wanting to go to a group seminar. But after attending it I realized the benefit of hearing the answer to everyone elses questions I hadn't even thought of asking. As well as seeing just how many people were out there just like me. That was sad but it helped me let go of some of the guilt and loneliness I was feeling going into this.

If you like what you hear at the seminar I can not emphasize enough the importance of attending at least one local support group meeting before your surgery. If possible before you even pick a specific surgeon.

Thanks.... I am so excited... about how long do you guys think it will take now that I'm starting the process to actually have the surgery?

Its near impossible to hazard a guess. It depends a lot on whether you are self pay or are dealing with insurance approvals as well as the particular surgeon you select. Mine was about 6-8 weeks from when I turned in my application paperwork a few weeks after the seminar. But I was self pay, I've known some insurance patients to be as quick if their approval came through quickly and others that fought for over a year to get it approved before having surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
