After waiting for 8 months, I finally have approval from my insurance company. Now... I have to lose the weight I've gained over the long depressing winter before I can have the surgery! I need some tips on safely losing 5-10 lbs quickly. I am a failure at losing weight so far and need some advice.

Thanks,

bonbon

Low Carb! It's questionable on how safe this diet is for you long-term. But if you follow the strict 2 week phase of the Atkins diet, you could lose 10-14 lbs. I have done this in the past.

Congratulations on your approval!!

I agree that low carb works to drop pounds quickly. I have done many times. I have done the 2 week induction (Atkins) before and lost about 15 pounds. Good luck to you!!

Congrats on the approval. I am a firm believer in the Protein Shakes for pre-op weight loss. I had 2 shakes per day and a very small meal and had no problem losing the required weight. Just be sure to use the low carb Protein shakes, not the muscle building ones. I prefer the chocolate whey powder from Walmart, mixed with skim milk and if needed, add some fit anf lite Dannon yogurt before blending. I was banded the end of August and still have the shakes on a daily basis.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
