Banded April 11. Eating Question

Recommended Posts

I have stayed religous to the diet and I have lost 25 pounds since surgery. I am suppose to be on creamy fluids, but today I tried chicken noodle Soup and it tasted great and went down no prob. Am I cheating, is this going to affect anything? Should I go back to just creamy Soups?

Congrats on the 25 lb weight loss!

I suggest you go back to creamy fluids. Even though you probably didn't hurt anything, it is best to follow your doctors guidelines to a T. Give your stomach time to heal. I know it's hard to be on liquids, but it is crucial that you follow your doctors instructions, especially the first few weeks. Believe me, it will be worth it. Good luck to you!

you should follow your post op diet to the letter. There are many indications that not following your post op diet can lead to slippage.

Strain the Soup and just eat the broth...the same yummy taste will be there without the solids. Also, many blend soups...but I didn't per drs. orders...well, the nutritionist anyway...it's only a short time...you will get through it. Be firm and don't eat what you are not supposed to!

You really need to stick to the post-op diet. The stages of liquids to mushies to solids is set the way it is because your new structure (stomach around the band) needs this critical time for healing. Scar tissue is forming around the band to set it in place. You don't want to risk a complication.

I remember being allowed to eat Lipton chicken noodle Soup (with the tiny pasta) during Phase II (Weeks 3 and 4).

That depends... did you eat the noodles? If you did, I would stop that! Just stick to the diet... 4 weeks isn't that bad.

I ate some mashed potatoes with a small piece of chicken today. I just could not resist. I made sure I chewed thoroughly, but now I feel like something is tight in my upper GI area. What are symptoms of slippage.
