My PCP is disappointed...

Recommended Posts

My PCP was disappointed in me this last weigh-in. It was my final weigh in prior to submitting for insurance approval. I lost weight (20 lbs during 6 month program) and I know it's not a lot, but hey, it's better than going up! She wasn't disappointed in the weight, but that I'm not getting the Protein Shakes in as much as I should. I know that there are threads about Protein shakes, but for those of you who are bothered by weird textures, what's worked for you? Do you manipulate the protein shakes in making smoothies, etc.? I think the Proteins shakes are too sweet, too thick, or just plain gross. I'm really struggling b/c I recognize this is a big part of my life post-surgery. I REALLY want to like them, but they almost make me gag...

Please help! Thanks! :tongue_smilie:

Hi Amanda,

I highly recommend the Worldwide Protein shake in chocolate. It comes in an aluminum can, ready to drink. It's not thick at all. In fact, I don't know why it's called a shake. I'm ok with their vanilla, but the banana is way too sweet. I can buy them at a store called Trader Joe's, but I find it easier to order them online.

Good luck!

Anne

From my dietitians instructions as soon as you are able to eat food, you should not be drinking the shakes. They are only to give you Protein while your band is healing.

So, hopefully, they won't be a big part of your afterband life!

Thanks... I just really wish that I didn't gag everytime I drank them. I've even tried the powders and they smell horrible. Have any of you tried the tastless powder that you can cook w/ and put in broths?

It's really expensive but may be worth it...

U know I was the same way... I have to load mine with ice... it has to be ice ice ice... cold for me to drink it.... and sometimes i will put in in the magic bullet and mix it up and i can only drink it with a straw. Other than that i wont be able to drink it.. it reminds me of drinking hott butter milk...:frown::thumbup::thumbs_down:... sorry i almost threw up...but try it with a lot of ice and see how that works... make sure it is realllllllyyyyy cold and the ice will help to think it out also....

I'm starting a "self imposed" liquid plan starting with exchanging 1 meal with the liquid. I'm using slim fast and I freeze them and eat them like icecream. I don't get that sick to my stomach feeling as bad.

Like Jena said, shakes should hopefully not be a big part of your life post-banding. Once you are healed up, stick with normal food.

If you end up being tight in the morning, have a latte or something until you are ready to eat. The milk in that is enough to get you started.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
