I am getting ready for my first surgical consultation. A bit apprehensive and quite anxious. Just looking for advice on anything that you think will help. Im open to all suggestions. Also looking for a shoulder cause I'm really scared. I know that this has to be done because I have tried everything else.:Bunny I am located in the Portland Oregon/ Vancouver Washington area...

I heard that taking a pencil and composition book (to the seminars) will do you a lot of good. I went with my mom and A LOT of people were doing that. I am glad I wrote down stuff cuz my mom was in a trance the whole seminar I think. Looking back on notes can help!

Read, read, read, and go to the Oregon Forum...click Lap Band Talk Forum, then scroll all the way down to Oregon, there's a merry bandsters thread that is great, all with folks in your neck of the woods. My best advice is to read and research, and if you have a ray of hope about this? it's real.

I'm just getting my band done tomorrow, so I don't have any experience but I am a good listener if you need a shoulder.

Welcome Hippiemams! I was really freaked out the week before my banding, but I sure got over it! The folks here are really great, and feel free to search any threads here. There is a lot of great information here.

Who? ME?! Oh man! No offending happening here! Oh my word, we have stuff all over this board that if you were worried about keeping it organized, no way! You are free to search and post wherever you think appropriate for your needs, I just wanted to point you in the direction of Oregon, since you would certainly find good reading there and some local talk. You just "hippie" (BTW love your screenname) yourself right at home wherever you land! I'm sorry if I sounded bossy, or whatever. Just pointing out stuff, you can ignore me! Welcome!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
