betrthnever 107 Posted April 21, 2008 I was at a BMI of 40 and had no problems getting insurance approval. I have BCBS.
kathystrick 3 Posted April 21, 2008 The first thing you need to do is call your insurance and get a copy of their policy on WLS. That will give you an idea of what hoops they are going to want you to jump through for approval. All companies are very different. My BMI is over 45 with no comorbidities. I am not approved yet, but have met all of their qualificaitons and am waiting. I have Anthem BCBS
Aquameliza 0 Posted April 22, 2008 What kind of insurance do you have? I have Harvard Pilgrim and it was a cake walk (assuming everything keeps going this way)! Good luck. I am so excited - it is 3 weeks away!!
angelface 1 Posted April 22, 2008 I have So Cal. Blue Cross. My BMI is 40 w/ no co morbidities. Getting approved was a piece of cake. It took about 2 weeks. if I were you, I'd ask your surgeon's office what your BMI needs to be to get approved. Mine told me it was 40 and anything lower would not be approved unless I had some kind of co-morbidities. They said they go by the BMI of your first appointment to submit to your insurance so don't go under 40 for that first apt. Good luck.
fat in nj 0 Posted April 22, 2008 Thank you for your help. How much medical records/ past history did you have to provide w/ the BMI of 40 and no other health problems? I'm very scared I wont be approved. thanks again
