Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 14th and the port pain does not hurt all the time but when it does it does. Will this go away and is this normal? Ouch!

As a person that has ben banded on the 16th, I can relate. The site does not hurt all the time but it most certianly lets me know that it is there!! When I move certian ways OUCH!! It reminds me that it is there, It is getting better everyday. I wish you the best and hopefully it will be much better soon.

Nancy :rolleyes2:

The pain will go away eventually, mine went completely away after about 6 weeks. The pain is from the port being sutured to the abdomen wall in order to keep it in place. My dr. also told me that the pain can also be from them puncturing through the abdomen wall in order to get the laproscopic tools to the stomach.

I just had my tubing and port replaced on friday due to a kink in the tubing and my Dr. said that the pain will not last as long this time because he did not have to go into the abdominal cavity for anything as it was all done just below the skin, but he did have to restitch the port into place so I am a little sore, but shouldn't last more than a few days.

Good luck, it will get better soon.

Ari

I agree with one of the other posters. It's coming from where the port is stitched to the inside of your abdomen, it does go away eventually. I do have pain sometimes at my port but I believe it comes from whatever way i'm sitting, feels like it's rubbing my rib cage, (mine is in front for some reason, a lot of people have them on the side). Anyway, best wishes to you.

I am totally having the same issue. I sit all day at work and am in so much pain, I had my surgery more than 2 months ago and still have discomfort in that area. It also feels like a hard rock to the left of where my port is. I've called my Dr's office and they say it's normal, but I'm just wondering if the pain is going to go away or is this something I'll be dealing with forever. I only feel good if I'm streched out like standing or lying down.

Yeah I just love this site, I feel like I'm not alone, and I don't need to call my Dr. office crying all the time. I hope someone who has been post op longer than us will respond and let us know if this pain goes away or we just need to deal with it!:glare:

Yea! I am hoping we are close to the end of the road with the "pain"

I occasionally find myself holding onto my side wondering if my port flipped because of it! I also agree about the site! love it.. just when you think NO ONE ELSE could possibly have the "issues" I have... great to know we are not going crazy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
