Is this right? Seems strange.......

Hi! I have a question.....I'm on mushies now and it's funny but absolutely everything I have tried to eat is going down fine. I'm hungry every 2-3 hours and I've been following the doctor's orders. Had some refried Beans yesterday and they were the BEST REFRIED beans I've ever had!!! Of course for the last day or so, everything I eat is the BEST I've ever had.....

Is it normal not to be having any "problems" with what I'm eating? I even had a piece of toast with some chicken salad (open face) and the toast didn't bother me.

I did find out from talking to the doctor that I'm a "gulper" when drinking. I called him when I was on the thick liquids because even 3oz at a time left with with a bubble in my throat all day long. He told me I suck in air with each breath when drinking and to not use a straw. I've been taking Gas-X which seems to help while trying to be more conscious of how I'm drinking.

I guess I'm in the "it's too good to be true" mode and waiting for something to go wrong.

Hi Laura --

I recently had my band re-positioned and am exactly the same way. No problems with any foods. Makes it that much harder to be mindful about what we're putting in our mouths. It's because you don't have any restriction after surgery -- the way you want it before the first fill. Sounds like you're doing great. Gas-X has been a trusted companion since I was banded!

Laura

It is normal to be very hungry just a week or 2 out of surgery. Keep feeding your hunger with Protein shakes, fat free pudding/jell0, fat free yogurt. The mushy stage is hard. I didn't like the consistency of the mushy food so I kept eating yogurt and egg salad. If you want to lose a good chunk of weight, hold off on solids as long as you can. I think most dr's say atleast 4 weeks until solid. Plus that will help you heal faster. Drink lots of Water too. Good luck and try to fight off the hunger. Take a walk or something.

I'm with all of you, just 11 days out of surgery, and I only lost maybe 8 lbs. I am hungry between meals, so I eat 1 oz. of cheese, or cottage cheese. And I also have no restriction, so I was able to chew to death a pork chop the other night for dinner, and 5 french fries, being very careful to mush them up though. I hope I get a fill in one month, not the usual 6 weeks, because I find myself CRAVING food again. HELP

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
