Eating bread

Recommended Posts

Hi I was just wondering how many of you out their have a problem with bread? Or any type of carbohydrate like Pasta, pretzels. I heard toasted bread is tolerated but I was wondering is people just never eat bread again after the band is in.??????

Hi Flower, I haven't tried bread yet, but I"m only 3 weeks into my band. My DH has been banded for 2 years and can only eat "tuff" bread, things like french bread crusts and heels. He can also tolarate toast in small amounts.

Hi Flower,

I eat bread every once in a while. I also eat pretzels and chips. Crunchy stuff goes down very well for most bandsters. I usually toast wheat bread and have one slice a week. I eat lots of whole wheat crackers. I guess I consider myself lucky cause I can tolerate anything in moderation. I probably would have been at goal already if I didnt eat the bread products occasionally. Although my popcorn fixation is greater than the bread!!!

I keep telling myself I can't do bread, just so I'll stay away from it. I did nibble on a tuna sandwich one day, but it was a little sticky going down. Like the above thread says, crunch stuff, omg I can eat the heck out of some nachos and salsa. I don't do well with taters at all, anytime I eat any kind I can plan on a major pb attack.

I've gotten use to using soy chips with my egg salad and pretty much anything I'd use bread for.

My "problem" with bread isn't an inability to tolerate it, exactly. The problem with bread is that it takes up all the room in the pouch in only a couple of bites, effectively ruining the rest of the meal. Toasted bread or crackers don't seem to have the same effect, I guess because they don't swell up once down the throat.

So sure, I can eat bread if I want it. But it's low in nutrients and high in bulk, exactly the opposite of what I should be eating.

I do the same as Babs....I can eat toasted wheat bread; have had only one or two half-sandwiches since banding as they are difficult; can eat crackers and breadsticks with no problem. I even tried lavash, pita, and tortillas and forget it....too doughy...

I am fine with crunchy things too.....but i love crunchy anyway!!!

I eat bread every once in awhile, it just cant be real doughy. I can do Pasta and rice very slowly with tiny bites. I have very good restriction I think.... 2.5 cc's but I am extremely careful when I eat breads, rice, & pastas. Each person is different. Someone can have less fil lthen me and can not tolerate bread or some will have more fill then me and can tolerate bread. You learn as you go, what works for you and what doesn't :)

I too cannot tolerate bread, crying, actually sobbing, no but I do miss bread a lot, I was a total bread person, probably wouldn't have needed the band if I would have just layed off the bread, but I did discover this weekend that I can eat about 1/2 slice of toasted bread and boy was it delicious, just delicious. And the worst thing of all, I can't just can't eat tortillas, and that sucks cause I'm Mexican and they are a huge part of our diet, tacos, quesadillas, all that yummy stuff, I can't do anymore, I don't eat Pasta either, can't all the good stuff, nope, no more. NO burgers, no tacos, no sir. Its hard, but oh well, when I get to my goal it will be worth it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
