Hello All,

Ok so this is week 3. I have been on blended food for a week now. As of last week I haven't lost anything. I feel like I could eat anything! I don't feel full when I am eating little. I feel like I could eat more then I am. However, I don't want to pig out. I am just wondering is this normal. I don't feel any restriction at all, as I did in the first 2 weeks. I'm a little discouraged! In the back of my mind, I feel that this has to be normal, but I still worry. Am I going to stop loosing until I get a fill? If that is the case, I don't go back to my DR. until four weeks and then he will tell me if I need a fill. But, I wont get it on that day, I will have to have another appointment for the fill. So, I'm looking at another 6 weeks before I get my first fill. I'm a little sad about this! I want to keep losing until I get the fill, but I'm not sure I will be able to do that. Can you guys give me your experiences and what you did in order NOT to gain weight before your first fill. I'm really scared!!! PLEASE help!

Heidi, what your feeling is normal, since you feel like you could eat the food right through the tv you should call your doc's and see about getting a fill sooner rather than later, I know some doc's start them right at 4 weeks post op, mine is 6-8weeks out that they start them but I think am one of the lucky ones since I get full pretty quickly even with no fill in place as of yet. I lost 25lbs since my pre op diet and but right now the concern for you is healing not weight loss, I think that people think the weight will start falling off and disappointment ensues when that does not happen, once you start getting fills, it loss will start/ continue. You are in control of your care and if you think that you need the fill then push for it or ask for the do'c reasoning as to why not, you have to be an advocate for yourself since it is no one elses job. As for not gaining weight before going for a fill, I am aware of my cal's and making good nutritional choices, also being aware of real hunger vs head hunger, I have for sure had a few instances where I have eaten due to boredom or whatever and then said "hey, why did I just do that, I was not even hungry" but you just pay more attention the next time and correct the negative behavior that way.

Hope this helps, congratulations on your 30lb weight loss already!!

BTW, I was banded by Dr. Ortiz on march 25th.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
