Psych Evaluation

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Well, I went today and had my psych eval done. I was in the doc's office from 10:15 until after 1:00. It was painless though. That 400 question questionnaire was something else altogether. Nothing difficult just very time consuming. Anyway, he said he has a new computer program that allows him to analyze the questionnaire much quicker than before and he should have the results to my surgeon in a couple of days. One step down.....many more to go.

My psych eval was very indepth also. I think it took me a little over 4 hours, and included the MMPI, a couple of IQ tests, etc. I was exhausted when it was done, but also relieved that it was over.

I was a little concerned because I thought this particular doctor sounded pretty anti-WLS (he told me I didn't look that heavy and I was right at 100 pounds overweight), but it all worked out and the IQ test results were a definite boost to my ego. LOL

Thanks for sharing your your experience with all of us. I am going for my eval on Wed 9/17. I come from a pretty dysfunctional family and in the back of my mind I feel as though they will "discover" something that I never knew was there. I know that's not true cause when it comes down to it I am just your average woman who has the same problems as everyone else so I know that's silly BUT it still crosses my mind. Thanks for sharing....it's helped to put my mind at ease a little!! :banana

Lioness, I had the same concern, a little. My family was very dysfunctional but I've been separated from them for so long the effect thereof are ancient history. I definitely think my obesity was exacerbated by my family's behavior when I was a child, but that doesn't mean I'm not a good candidate for WLS.

Just be yourself and don't evade talking about any particular subject. You'll do fine!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
