hi everyone~ i just got my band on april 15th. this is my first time on this site, even though i've been going through the whole process for almost a year now. i am about 5 days post op and feeling pretty good physically. i am having a hard time emotionally though. i really hope that is going to get better soon. but, i have already lost weight so i'm very excited about that.

i'm glad to be here and i look forward to reading about all the good/bad things we are all going through. it's nice to know there are ppl who understand:)

What kind of emotional problems are you having?

Hi Eureka2578,

I didn't find this site until I was banded for three months. I had always wanted to talk to others who are on the same journey, but where I live there are no support groups. It's been great finding out that what you are going through is normal (to us at least). Hang in there, take one day at a time and when you get to eat solid food again, don't forget to chew.

i'm feeling really sad. i feel like i'm being left out of everything that goes on in my family. we all have let our lives revolve around food and right now i'm the only one that can't enjoy that aspect of our life and i'm feeling very isolated. i wish my husband were a little more understanding and not have them all eating my favorite foods and having cookouts while i'm going through this liquid diet part anyway. he also invited a friend's kids to spend the weekend with us without asking me and i got overwhelmed. i'm kind of angry with him for doing that, but i also feel a little guilty because he and the kids did not chose to have this sugery. so i have alot of emotions floating around right now.

My best advice would be not to overdo it--emotionally or physically...I'm about 4.5 weeks post op and it can take its toll on you--and that's with a very supportive family--it's very much a mindset--gain control over the food--i had to do a lot of self-talk...when I was just 2 days post op we had a HUGE family gathering that was a cook out and there was sooo much food there...I just fed my face with all the right things every hour or so--yogurt, sugar free Jello, s.f. popsicles, broth, s.f. pudding, etc...I treated myself and bragged about all the goodies...trying to convince myself that i was not "missing out"...i made it through...it's all very temporary...now, just 4 weeks later, and only a week after my first fill, it doesn't even bother me...i can find things to eat and blend in with the rest of them. Just try not to take it personally--it's not a conspiracy--at least not that I know of--I'm sure they aren't out to get you--they just don't know any better--can you talk to them??? This website is the BEST place for support...latch on!!! I've made the BEST friends on here...I have found some that I call on the phone often when I need to talk...it's very helpful...hang in there...it WILL get better!!! PM me if you need to talk!

Hang in there. I remember when I was first diagnosed with diabetes. After meeting with a nutritionist, I stood in my kitchen literally crying -- seriously mourning the loss of food. It was in those moments that I was finally able to understand what people meant when they said, "Food is my best friend."

You'll need to find a new way, Eureka. But you've made a good and lasting decision for your health.

Have you been specific with your husband about what you need? He may not know what you need. What you need may change from day to day (or moment to moment, even).

Give yourself some time to adjust. Find other things that you can enjoy with your family.

You'll be ok. You are ok

What have you been doing to be able to loose 42 lbs in three months? I need the details!

eureka2578,

I agree with what was said above. Talk to your husband. Try not to isolate. That's not good for you. It increases the chances that you will turn to food and that will hurt you both emotionally and physically. You made the right decision for your health. I had to go to a baby shower at work about a week out (still on liquids). What I did and I think you should try is have a cup or bottle of something you can have and keep it in your hand sipping on it so that you don't miss that hand to mouth motion too much. Kids are truly resilant! They will be okay if they don't have friends over until you feel better and stronger. No your husband and children may not have had the surgery or asked for it but you all are a "family" and what effects one of you effects the rest. Wouldn't you take care of them? Take care of your self. :tongue_smilie:

Phyl808,

I lost 18 lbs in the first ten days (mostly water), I walked every day for about 45 minutes. Then it was 2 ounces of solid food (protein) and lots of liquids. No carbs and no Snacks. I exercise at least 30 to 45 minutes, 6 days a week. I walk on a treadmill, ride a stationary bike and do resistance exercises. I'm up to about 3-4 ounces of Protein and 2 ounces of vegies (usually peas or string beans). I think that exercise is what helps me along with the reduced food intake. I can't say that I'm always good, I have snuck in a sweet here and there, but I think that it all works together. I have to work at it, the band is not the cure all, but a vehicle to help me not overeat.

Hey, I was in about a week depression after surgery. I think it was because I was ending a love affir with a lifelong lover. You see food has always been there for me: when I was sad, mad, happy, etc. Now, after the surgery you can't eat like you did before. And when I have these feelings I can't turn to my old bud(food) for comfort. I have heard that alot of people go through this. Something like post-partum depression. I'm glad mine only lasted a week. It will gat better. Just keep watching the scale and you will start feeling better Tracey P.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
