What is this pain I'm having, Please help!

Recommended Posts

OK I had surgery on April 8, 2008, that is about a week and a half ago. I know that isn't very long, and I think I am healing quit well! But here is the problem.... My incisions are healing very nicely, with no infections, but in one of the incisions (The one that is on the upper left almost under my breast, I feel a stabbing pain. If feels like a really bad sunburn in that one tiny spot. at some moments its worse than other moments. The pain is a small spot, but it just hurts like someone is pressing on a sunburn! what are your thoughts? I think it might be where my port is, I am not sure. Has anyone ever felt a pain like this? None of the other incisions hurt just this one. What was anyone elses diagnosis from their doctor regarding the pain? Of course I will call the doctor, but I am just curious what everyone else thought! As far as my diet goes, I am to be on full liquids for two weeks and then mushies for two weeks. I am a week and a half and I kind of started mushies (I think) nothing to heavy but not liquid either. Please give me your thoughts, the pain hurts and is unconfortable!!:confused2:

P.S. I started at 174 on day of surgery and I am down to 162

Miamipeaches467, I was banded on 3/11 and still have roving, sharp mystery pains from time to time. Of course, call your doctor right away. But I saw my doctor and was checked out thoroughly and all is really well. I exercise regularly and vigorously now and every few sessions I have a little pain. Good luck. I hope you'll share what your doctor says.

is it like a burning????? God where were you last week when I had this problem. Same thing, now I went to the doctor on Friday and he said basically nothing. But Friday night I was coaching my daughters softball team and she caught a pop fly and I ofcourse jumped up and down and guess what... it came back. I figured it out, we feel really good almost back to normal and we are for the most part but let is not forget we are not completely healed from this surgery and I think I stained my port with too much movement. Becareful and give yourself time to recover

is it your insides that burn, or your skin? if it is your skin, it could be your nerves healing from where they were cut during surgery. i have a softball size area of skin under my port scar that has nerve damage. it was numb for the first week and a half, but then it started burning when it was touched. now it's sort of almost normal. doc said it was just the nerves healing, and you often get a burning numbness from that. kind of like a sunburn, or like when you touch your food when it coming awake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
