How long did it take to feel a restriction?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 3/19/08 and have lost 20 pounds so far. I received my first fill almost 2 weeks ago. I am still starving and I find it harder and harder not to snack...How many fills does it usually take for the person to fill restricted. I have to force myself to eat the amounts the doctor said I can have, I never have that "full" feeling. Any help????Suggestions??

I agree. Usually you feel the restriction on the 3rd or 4th fill!!! Hang in there... You'll get to your goal.

It took me 3 fills. Even then I thought it wasn't enough, but after 2 weeks, boy was it working. That was on 12/18/07. I have lost 24 lbs since then. You need be patient. You will get there.

I had minimal restriction after the first fill (2 cc's on 3-25-08) 1 month post op. I just had another fill of 3 cc's on 4/15/08 and now feel good restriction. I still am adjusting to the full sensation after eating very little compared to the past.

I had 3 ccs put in a 10 cc band during surgery. I haven't felt hungary yet and have as much restriction as I need.

Thanks. I had 1 cc put in during surgery and another 7/10 put in at my first visit! I have a 10 cc band too! I'll tell the doc I need more of a fill!

I'm so confused. Why would it kick in after 2 weeks when the fill had been there the whole time? :confused2:

It took 3 fills for me and my doc. took 6 months to do 3 fills! I was getting desperate because I was still so HUNGRY! But I'm now feeling restriction at last. (At 5ml. in an 8ml. band) Be patient - but maybe not as patient as me! If I had my time over, I'd be more assertive with my doc. and ask for a fill once a month instead of once every 2 months - which is his standard. I feel my weight losss journey hasd been slowed down because of this. Hopefully NOW I'll really start to see the benefit of the band!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
