This second fill kicking my butt...and I need to know what to do...???

Recommended Posts

Got my second fill after having NO weight loss with the first....started out not able to get hardly anything down - even liquids. Now, I can get little tiny amounts of food and liquid down - very slowly - during the day. I have PB'd quite a few times. When I sleep, during the day for a nap or at night, I feel liquid come up my throat and it burns. It wakes me up and I cough and sometimes spit up. I'm so upset because I NEED restriction, but these things are concerning me.

Should I keep giving it time???? or should I go in and have some taken out?

I had the same thing happen, only I didn't have the problems when lying down. I put up with the pbing for 10 days, then I finally had an unfill. Too much was taken out, now I haven't had any weight loss since the unfill, actually, the weight has gone up and down by a pound, depends which day I weigh.

I was so relieved after I got some Fluid taken out, but I'll bet I could eat a hamburger now and barely chew it, (I haven't had a burger since getting banded).

I'm getting a refill on Wed, I can hardly wait to start having some weight loss again. I feel like I've been in a terrible limbo and a waste of 20 days.

Don't play around with it too long, especially if you're getting that burning in your throat. Good Luck!

Hi Sensy,

Sounds like you're too tight, for sure! When did you get this fill? Did you stick to liquids for at least a whole day right afterwards? If your fill was very recent and/or you went right to solids immediately, your over-restriction might be due to swelling and could pass if you baby yourself for a few days. But if you're having trouble getting even liquids down, and you're having reflux, a small unfill could definitely be in order.

Don't worry about losing restriction! Being too tight is worse, could lead to damage, and you can't effectively manage your diet if you can't eat real food or get enough sleep. I think you should call your doctor and have a tiny adjustment. Even a couple of tenths of a cc can make a huge difference!

Sensy, it sounds like you area little too tight. If you have reflux and you are Pbing more then once a week you should call your doctor and have a little bit removed. Frequent Pbing is not good for the band and can result in slippage, having as little as .2 cc's can make a huge difference for relief but still keep good restriction. If it were me I would go in and have a little taken out. Good Luck to you :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
