Fellow Montanan Having Surgery in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi There -

I have a surgery date set for June 18th with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana, Mexico. I'm ready for this. I called Dr. Rohrer's office to make sure they can do fills since I'm being banded in Mexico, and they can.

I was just wondering if anyone else in Montana has had the lap band procedure done by Dr. Ortiz? I hear he is one of the most experienced surgeons out there, which is one of the reasons I chose him.

I also would like to hear how fills have gone for Mexico patients.

Hello,

I was banded in MX 2 years ago. Dr. Sanchez. Welcome. Which part of state do you live in?

I live in Bozeman. I contacted Dr. Rohrer in Great Falls, and he will do fills on MX patients, but only certain bands. My surgeon uses two bands...one that Dr. Rohrer can fill and the other is the Realize and I don't have a say in which band they use...Dr. Ortiz will use the band he feels is best, which I'm fine with. I'm trying to figure out what my options are for fills in Montana. I would think there was someone in Billlings??? If you can help that would be great!

How did everything go for you in Mexico? I am scheduled with Dr. Ortiz on March 30. What did you use for your proof of citizenship? I have my drivers license and birth certificate, but I am wondering if there will be problems because my bc is naturally in my maiden name. I am traveling alone and am wondering if reentry to the US is going to be a problem.

Have the fills with Dr. Rohrer worked for you. I contacted their office and I hope that I end with the brand he will fill.

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. How have things been going for you?

I live in florence which is about 20 miles south of Missoula. I grew up near Roundup.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
