Slow weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hi... I'm feeling really frustrated! I was banded on March 7th, and had a small fill on April 7th. I've only lost 24lbs. I barely eat anything, and am hungry most of the time. I go for walks about 3-4 times a week, but we have had some horrible weather... snow and wind!!

Ya think by starving the body, the weight would come off fast. I am hoping to loose another 100lbs.

I'm wondering if I should get another fill, because I right now, I eat such a small amount, but only because I'm scared of throwing up or having those horrible burps. I haven't experience a feeling of being full yet, and usually about 1-2hrs after I eat, I'm hungry again so I drink lots of Water and wait until the next meal. Talk about controlling myself! But I'm scared I'm going to loose it one day and eat a pizza or a big burger!!

Am I loosing my mind??:confused2:

You have lost 24 pounds in 6 weeks and that is great! That is a very good weight loss.

Make sure you are eating enough food. If you starve yourself your weight loss will slow down. You need to eat a healthy amount each day. Follow the band rules. Protein first, then veggies and then a healthy carb if you need it. Chew very well and don't drink during or after meals for 30 minutes to an hour. Drink plenty of Water between meals. Increase your exercise. If you can do this you will reach your goal.

Stop beating yourself up and be proud of what you have accomplished.

Hi there. I wonder if you are putting too high expectations on yourself and pushing too hard? 24 pounds in 6 weeks seems like a great weight loss!

From what I have heard and read, it sometimes takes a few fills for you to feel restriction. You should not be starving yourself - that is not healthy or good for you psychologically. Can I ask if you track your food each day in a program like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal ? I wonder if you are getting the appropriate amounts of nutrients. I am aiming for 1100-1200 calories a day, with at least 60-70 grams of Protein, 20-30 grams of (good) fats, and around 100 grams of carbohydrates. I find this keeps my hunger well at bay. I get most of my carbs from a really wholesome, low GI, homemade Vegetable Soup.

Take it easy on yourself, and make sure you make your journey healthy and happy.

Skinny Jill hit the nail on the head! If your not eating enough, your body will shut down. Your weight loss so far is GREAT  Try keeping a food journal, and at the end of the day figure out how many calories you are eating. You may need to add more.

:thumbup:i was banded on 2/4/08 and have lost 26 pounds so far. You are not alone. I had my 2nd fill last week but I can feel the difference. I am not hungry, but know I should eat. My advice: make sure you re getting enough food and water...and keep taking your supplements...

Thank you very much for all your feedback. I really appreciate your support.

I do get impatient with myself, and after this, I've decided to just weigh myself once a week. I think I've been to obsessed with the scale. I have registered at the fitday website, and that will help too.

Thanks again!

Debbie

Don't get discouraged. I'm 6 months out and have lost a little over 30 lbs. I exercise at the gym 3 times a week doing cardio and weight resistance training. Since I started heavier exercise I've noticed better results.

Keep up the good work!

Hey, slow loser, I was banded October 26th and I have lost 32 pounds so you might need to call yourself something else because I win the slow loser title! And let me tell you, I am thrilled to have lost those 32 pounds. I could never have done it without the band. My weight loss averages a little over 1 pound a week, which is exactly what the band manufacturer and most doctors recommend. You are supposed to lose 1-2 pounds a week. So anything more than that is above average, which means you are above average. So keep up the good work. And once you get the proper restriction you will be able to control your portion sizes and you won't feel hungry. At that point the band will be doing it's job and you will be getting maximum benefit from it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
