Hi!

I was "banded" as an outpatient on April 17th in Greeley, Colorado. I am a patient at North Colorado Medical Center. It's a "Center of Excellence" facility. Dr. Michael Johnell put in a Realize band. He used the DaVinci robot to assist him and I have five small incisions on my abdominal wall. While he was inside, he discovered a small hernia which he also repaired. I guess that's common, too.

I chose this program because of the extensive pre and post op care. I know that the reason I am overweight has little to do with eating and so much more to do with emotions.

I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet. I'm not sure what all the feelings are that I am having, I can't tell if I have gas, or if I'm full, or if this is just temporary until I am healed. It's a whole new world.

Looking forward to using the forums and meeting some of you.

I also have the realize band. I'm going to be moving your way in the fall from alaska. Just wanted to warn you about your fills. I had no restriction coming out of surgery. I will get my 3rd fill tomorrow and as of right now have no restriction. I have 4cc's in my 9cc band. My warning is don't get your hopes up that you'll have restriction right away. I think it might take 6-7cc's. I had my hopes up that I wouldn't be hungry all the time. I haven't given up. I just wish someone would have warned me about how long it can take to get restriction. Good luck with recovery! Chrissie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
