Incisions Pulling Apart?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was just banded on April 9. My staples were removed one week later. Most of the incisions look good, but one of them is pulling apart slightly. The opening of the incision is not very deep, but it is open. Did anyone else have this problem, and if you did, what did you do? I don't really care if the scar is a little bigger because of this, but I do worry about infection.

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

One of mine pulled apart a bit too..not deep but I had the skin glue...Doctor said it looks good all I do is put some neosporin on it to help it heal. It will just scar a little wider then the other scars. Just keep it clean and put some of that antibiotic cream on it.

Just as long as you don't have a fever and it's not warm to the touch and really sore then you should be okay. If you have any of these symptoms then you should contact your doctor. Keeping the area clean and exposed to air will help in the healing process.

How are you feeling since being banded? I haven't received my date yet and can't wait.

You know, I really did well after the surgery. I had to sleep in the recliner a couple of nights because it was a little difficult to get up and down to go to the potty. I took the pain med (liquid loritab) pretty much the whole first day I came home from the hospital, including waking up and taking a dose during the night. The second day, I used more liquid tylenol than not, buy did use the loritab at night.

I have been able to get in over 60 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water from the second day. I know some have said that was difficult for them at first, but not for me. I think part of staying home is just to adust to sipping Water constantly and working out when to eat and then drink.

I've not been too hungry since the surgery, but have been eating my three meals. In fact, today, I was able to get all of my Protein without using a Protein shake. I must admit that I was getting tired of all of the sweet Proteins, Jello, and sweet medicines.

Good luck to you.

My large port wound did the same thing. What helped me were butterfly closures. It was only one end of the incision, and I was able to put some Neosporin on it, press the skin together, and close the opening with the butterfly bandage. The bandage is very thin in at the part that covers the wound, so it still gets alot of air to help the healing. Healed just as small as the other scars. Make sure if you have any signs of infection, that you notify your doctor immediately. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
