Size goal vs Pound goal

Recommended Posts

I started out my journey at 260 lbs size 28. I am 15 months out now and in a comfortable 14. YEA!!!! HOWEVER I'm always beating up on myself (going to a weight loss support group meeting this am), compairing myself to others that have had the surgery, wondering why they look better than me etc... Just makes me want to cry. At this point I find I'm mourning my food. Won't go to social events because "others" can eat and I can't....ughhhhh Any help out there???

Initially my goal was about a size 10. But when I reached a size 10 I still had 25 lbs to go to my weight goal. Now I'm a size 8, and they are a little loose. I can fit into size 6 jeans but they are still a little too snug for comfort. (The sizes are DEFINITELY bigger than 15 years ago!) And I still have 16 lbs to go that I really do need to lose, not just because I have a certain goal in my head. So I guess I'd say the size goals change along the way. When I was starting out, I thought I'd be happy just to get into a 12 or a 10. Now I'm thinking I might be a 4 when I'm at goal. Goals can always be adjusted.

The band helps our bodies shrink but it doesn't do a thing for our heads!

But there are other resources:

I am working through a workbook called The Food and Feelings Workbook that I bought on Amazon. I'm still in the first section about feelings so I'm not sure yet how well it's going to work. :(

There is also a web site called Shrink Yourself that goes along with a book and they have a short online course you can take for free.

Also, if you have health insurance, you might have a mental health benefit for some counseling sessions.

I agree because initially I wanted to weigh 145-- had been my goal weight since highschool. But now at 163 I am somehow wearing a size 8, I really don't want to wear size size. I am 5' 5" and feel like size 6 is just too small for my height. Im 42.

on the whole I wear a size 14 - sometimes a 16 pants if the legs are narrow and I would love to be a 10/12. Don't know what weight it will take to get there, I was a 12 in college when I weighed 172; add in I'm having some PS done its all a mystery

Maybe you are denying yourself too much. I went to a potluck last night; I had Italian sausage, potato salad, fruit salad, some other bean salad, and homemade strawberry pie for dessert. The secret is the serving size--about a tablespoon of each, except for the sausage. My doctor said I can eat any solid foods, but should be eating no more than 1/3 of what I was eating pre surgery. The band didn't stop me from eating; it just stopped me from overeating.

My main goal is to to be healthy, get rid of my blood pressure medicine, and be able to walk and play with the grandkids. But I would love to walk into a store and go to the regular women's clothes and not have to go to the plus sizes. The selection of plus size clothes is terrible and the prices are so high.

Originally, I just wanted to be below 200 because the doctor showed me charts showing that I couldn't expect to lose all my excess weight with banding. After reading about all the success stories here, I think I may set another goal to be below 170--then I will be merely overweight and not obese. Sounds good to me.

Ooh, I hate it when docs do that. I know they are trying to set realistic expectations but to convince their patients to aim for mediocrity is not how you have a successful program IMO. I went to a seminar where they said "these are the averages" and "you should aim for at least the average". My response: I'm outta here baby!

I originally wanted to be a size 12. I just hit that goal and am NOT done. I want to be a 8 or 10 before I am done. I am going to shoot for a 10 before PS and get that panniculus thing I have going on removed as well as some Lipo in my arms and hopefully that'll get me to the 8. Single numbers... Who would've thought?!!!!!!!!!!!!

I worked to a size and didn't weigh once (really, not even once) for 2 years after my band. I was banded on 3rd April 2007 and had to have a 'ladies' check up on March 27th 2009. I started at 222lb, BMI 40 and UK size 18-20 and was at 132 when I had to be weighed. I am now at 127llbs with a BMI of 22 and a UK size 6 - 8. My aim was to be a UK 12 but I have settled now and am so happy I can't tell you! So - whatever makes you feel that you're reaching your goal, weight, size or measurements - just keep going and knowing that you'll make it!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
