Healing w/ toddlers in house -lifting

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be banded in May and I am a SAHM (2 preschoolers) with a husband that travels extensively. He'll be home the 3 days after surgery but then will be gone. I was going to try to manage the kids on my own but now I am getting nervous. My 2.5 yr old weighs 32lbs and I know I'm not supposed to lift her for a few weeks but I realize that isn't feasible. She is with me all day every day. Anyone else in my boat? How did you handle it? Should I hire a daytime nanny?

thanks

You should be just fine in 3 days. I was home alone with my 3 year old the very next day and felt fine. My dr said I had NO lifting restrictions as I was leaving the surgery center. I didn't take my pain meds, just tylenol, didn't want to be a zombie trying to take care of my son and I didn't need them.

I've been concerned too. I have an 18 month old daughter(amazing little girl by the way) and absolutely have to lift and carry her. She can't go downstairs on her own, needs to be lifted into her high chair/crib etc. My hubby has to work the two days following my surgery and my mom will be here during that time, then Darren will be home the weekend. So I should have a solid four days of not lifting her. Hopefully that'll be enough!?

I have two boys, one almost 3 and one almost 4. I am a sahm also. My sis and I were banded together and she has small ones also. Our Dr said that afew days for her would be fine befor lifting and 4weeks for me due to a hernia repair (i didnt know i had) during surgery. I think as long as you get down to your childrens level and use your legs to come up you will be fine. What hurts the most is when they are kinda sitting on your hip and feet or knees are bumping into your incisions. You know yourself the best so just take it easy. Good luck

You ladies are amazing, I couldnt lift anything for a few weeks after my surgery. My worst part was not being able to pick up my grandson. I was fine if someone handed things to me but i was afraid of splitting my incisions if I lifted.

I was also a basket case the week after. I had a hard time just getting out of bed on my own!

I hate to admit it and don't tell any of my fellow gender members, but, men are whimps!!:biggrin::tongue::biggrin::crying:

My son was 12 months at my time of surgery and he loves to climb, so after surgery I just had him climb up on the couch when he wanted me to hold him, so that it was easier to be at his level. It made lifting him a lot easier.

I had no problem. My DD was 10months old at the time and I could carry her in an infant car seat with no problems. I did use my baby sling alot but that was just to help keep her up on my hip when I was carrying her. As a matter of fact I still use my ring sling alot to hold her if we are shopping or walking and she is now 16months old. I just love the slings.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
