Just curious,

I had the flu last week (temp of 103, chills, vomiting the whole thing) this week I am trying to get back to normal. I don't seem to be able to keep solids such as lunch meat, chicken or pork from sliming back up. This occurs after chewing completely and after only 2-3 bites, could the band have slipped from my flu????? I have been banded since the middle of December and feel great other wise. any advice/stories or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I just went through this. Per my doctor, the stoma got irritated from all the coughing and vomiting. I needed a small unfill the other day because nothing was going down including liquids. I had 1.5 cc taken out. Enough to be able to eat/drink, and to let the irritation calm down. I still have plenty of restriction. You might want to give your doc a call and see what is recommended. Feel better

thank you Jack and Renee.

I called the doctor but they did not seem too concerned, so far all I can eat is Soup. I tried a few crumpled crackers but felt them "back up" It's been like this for a week. It's my fortieth birthday tomorrow and I envisioned a nice dinner with my sweetie but I am scared to try anything more than liquids.

I guess I need to call and be a little more forceful with the doc and asked to know what is going on.

thanks again

I definitely suggest giving your surgeon's office another call. You should be able to get some solids or soft foods in without sliming or PB'ing. I would also really work on getting in the liquids... A LOT of liquids. When I got the stomach flu last fall, I ended up really dehydrated. When I am dehydrated, my band is MUCH tighter.

Hang in there and Happy 40th!

Happy big 4-0!! Tell your doctor that you need a small unfill. You recognize that you are having difficulty. Don't risk dehydration or lack of nutrition. If you know there is a problem, your doctor should be listening better. A week is a long time to have difficulty eating.

I am so relieved to find this site. I just went through a very similar situation and had to make a two hour trip to my surgeon to have some Fluid removed from the band. I couldn't even get Water to go down. Now I am on the mend and my mind is much at ease knowing that it has happened to others. I have been very happy with my band so far and if this is the worst thing that happens then it will all be worth it. I lost 30 pounds waiting to be approved for the band by my insurance and now added to that I have lost a total of 97 pounds. I am indeed happy with my results! Thanks everyone for being here to set my mind at ease.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
