Tax Day Banded and feeling weird...

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I stumbled on to this group while looking for symptoms from post-op lap-band.

After being released from the hospital on Wednesday, I spent most of the 16th sleeping. Yesterday I passed more gas than Exxon but didn't have a lot of pain.

Now today.... more gas and my shoulders, back and ribs ache. My chest feels a little tight too. I feel like I just got up with a nasty hang over from drinking too much wine. It's an uneasy, weird feeling like I'm either about to fall asleep or pass out.

I've been doing what the doc ordered, although it's hard to get all of the fluids/protein in... everything tastes like dirt right now.

And finally, I feel like I've pulled a muscle in my lower abdomen, below my navel.

I'm not regretting the decision to have the operation, but I sure wasn't prepared for feeling this rough.

Has anyone else experienced some of this, or am I just the big wuss of the group?

Thanks for letting me ramble...

Congrats on getting banded. Actually what you are experiencing is like what many others have described here so you are not being a wuss. Most seem to be feeling better in about a week. Hang in there.

Welcome and congratulations on being banded. Your symptoms are very normal. I didn't feel "human" again until about 9-10 days post-op. Read over the different sections for new people and a lot of your questions will be answered.

I was on strictly Clear Liquids the first week after surgery. I also developed a cold and coughed a lot and just knew I had ruined my port and band. ( self pay here ) But, my surgeon did a great job and it has been my best friend for the past 13 months.

KEEP THE FAITH!!!!! AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hello,

I also was banded on the 16th. It was not a piece of cake like I thought it was going to be. Reading so many people have great recoveries, I like you, feel a bit disappointed with the pain. 48 hours later it hurts, but can't let it keep you down. I went grocery shopping and ran some errands and have tried to not think about it but the pain is still there. Good luck to you. I hope you feel better soon.

That is absolutely normal, I think I had sips of Water and crystal light only for 5 days after surgery. Try gas-X, also may want a stool softner, heating pad, but do get up and move!! I was honestly not myself for about 2 weeks, but still had tenderness and even some pain for almost 6 weeks!! Maybe that was me, everyone is different. Hang in there and you know your body, so asked your doc. Good Luck!

I have horrible gas too. It comes and it goes. The 2nd day post-op I thought I was dying from the gas pain. Then it got better and then today it's in my shoulder and chest. It's killing me. If it wasn't for that my pain would be minimal. Motrin helps with the pain in my shoulder and makes it tolerable. I thought that it would all be gone by now, but not so. Walking is the only thing that helps me feel better. Also riding in the car bounced some to the surface so to speak! My lower abdomen is also sore from pulling myself into a sitting position from bed, etc. My surgical site is a lot less sore today except for my port site which is still quite tender. Good luck to you and hang in there. It has to get better soon!

I love the fact there are so many people active on this site. It really helps to relieve the "worries" ! Today I'm feeling quite a bit better. The gas pain is still lingering, but not too much. The weird "pulled muscle" feeling in my lower abdomen is still there, but easily tolerable. The rest of the pain is centered around the port incision alone.

The only issues left are the nausea and the stamina. I've been running some errands and getting on my feet but I don't have much energy yet. The nausea comes and goes, and while I don't feel like vomiting, it's a lousy sour-stomache feeling. I guess this too shall pass.

I can't wait to start feeling a little more normal... and 2 more days I can start having more than liquids! Yeah!

The most exciting part is how quick I'm dropping weight. I know it won't continue this fast and it's probably mostly Water weight, but I'm already down 40lbs from the day I got approved till today!

I hope and pray we all have continued success!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
