March 17, true Shrinking Shamrocks

Recommended Posts

MYdesign.png

did anyone else out there get their banding done on St Patty's day like me?

I have lost a total of about 43 pounds since my journey started with my 1st Dr appointment 12/07.

havent had a fill yet, ready for it but have realized after reading posts today that I better not rely on it being restrictive the first time. I have had a renewed drive to eat right. Positive and negative replies have been good.

Hope to hear from other "True Shrinking Shamrocks"!!!

Yes, there is a whole shamrock patch of us that got banded on March 17th and I was one of three of us at the hospital on the same day and it was funny that we were lieing on beds side by side in the pre-op waiting area! Check out the Band surgery dates thread I created for the heck of it to see who all got banded in March.

Hi Ronnfia,

I was also was banded on March 17th. Welcome to the patch as SpecialK says.

Best thing I ever did for myself. Have losted 42 pounds since the middle of Feburary. Had my first fill (.5cc) on the 21st of March. I feel a slight difference. If I eat to fast my chest starts to hurt. Other than that I feel great. Found myself walking straight down some stairs the other day, I have not been able to do that in a long time. I used to have to come down side ways.

We have a good group here. I read this forum just about every day.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Donna

Hi everyone,

I had my first fill last friday and I am pleased. I have been reading a lot about some people who get fills and have no restrictions at all. Sometimes taking 3-4 fills to get restriction. I am happy to say I do have some restriction after my first fill. I was really surprised at the ease of getting the fill and how much it didn't hurt. After my Dr. appointment my Dr said, ok come on over. there was a bed right in his office that I didnt even notice was there. In less than 10 minutes we were all done. I have a 10cc band and he filled 4cc in to the 1 that was already in. Breakfast has been 2 eggs, and I have to work hard at getting it to stay down. I am sometimes afraid that I wont be able to eat enough, but I have to be careful not to snack. It is very easy to put down nibbles here and there, and as we all know that is the hard part!

Next fill in a month and we will see how my food tolerance is at that point and keep filling as needed I guess.

Good luck to everyone out there, keep positive and work hard!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
