Time for a new beginning....but i lil nervous

Recommended Posts

Finally, after 2 years I finally got my date. 5/15 is the day of change. I start my liquid diet on Thursday. I am not really excited about that but is anyone. This is going to be hard for me. I know I will do it though. The one thing I am scared about is the whole hospital thing....I know some of you may laugh but I have never been in the hospital. I try to stay away from them. This is the only thing that is making me think....Anyone have any advice to help me through my scare..

Also I am in College living away from home. Anyone have advice for me. A sociable thing I do at college is go out to eat. Get a bunch of people together and go relax and chill at the bar. How did people get through this. Usually when i was bored i would eat...Any Suggestions

I am just looking for some tips I guess...because i think i am going to have a hard time with this

thanks

One of the things the therapist at the Bariatric Center told me was that many of their bariatric patients, when they go out to eat. With their order, they ask the server to bring them a carryout box & when the food comes, she goes ahead & puts all BUT a small portion in the carryout box.

I thought, If we had thought of that to begin with, we wouldn't NEED the band! Great idea. Saves money, cooking, time & energy, too. Sounds good to me.

Hope this helps!

No one is going to laugh at you because you've never been in the hospital. It's normal to be scared of the unknown. The hospital really isn't that scare and mose people who work there are very sensitive and caring. If you have to re-register you might be able to ask for a small tour so you will be somewhat familiar with your surroundings. Do you have a friend who will be going with you to the hospital?

You might have to find a new group of friends who like to do other things besides eat and drink. Maybe you can start something.

I'm sure you will do great! Hang in there.

Wednesday April 23 is my surgery date. I didn't really think I would be as nervous/scared/wishy-washy as I am right now. Is it just me who worries I WON'T wake up from anesthesia.

That is my only fear about surgery, but you just have to put faith in your doctors.

I think everyone has that fear - it's tough not being in control of the situation and putting your safety in others' hands. What has made me feel better is that my husband is a nurse in Outpatient Surgery, and in the year he has been there and through THOUSANDS of surgeries, nobody has ever not woken up. Outpatient surgery is very safe.

Also, a little pre-surgery anxiety medicine from you doc never hurt anyone!!!:tongue_smilie:

I guess it is hard to find other things to do when you belong to a fraternity. I guess pamper parties and other such things wouldn't work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
