Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

I am so glad to see everyone posting! I really look forward to making some friends here.

I am in Arlington, TX. Lots of bandsters around here. :biggrin2:

Well, today is four days post op. I am still really sore. I bruised really bad. I mean, I bruise easily anyway, but these bruises are enormous. I am supposed to be putting ice packs on them. I am having a lot of pain at the port site. I am still taking pain meds, although a lot less. I do feel a lot better today. I have been able to get around fine, it's just this bruising that is making things a little more challenging.

Have any of ya'll noticed the amount of food commercials on TV? I have never really paid attention to them before. Now that I am on all liquids, all I SEE is food on TV! It's weird though, because I am not hungry when I see the pizza Hut (my favorite) commercial, but when it is on my brain says, "PIZZA! EAT PIZZA!" I told my husband that I am starting to see that I was psychologically addicted to food. Those commericals are designed to get you to eat, even if you are not hungry! One could judge by the size of my hips and butt just how many times I have fallen for it.

I totally agree with food commercials comment...I think they really do brain wash you!..Now that have been banded for 3 1/2 months they don't phase me much anymore. Every once in a while I do find myself wanting to eat like i used to, but it just isn't possible anymore, which is a good thing. My hardest thing is that my husband loves his sweets, but he is lucky because he is 6'5 and 210lbs. So sometimes the temptation is there for me to grab junk to snack on, but so far I have done really good!

I am glad that you are doing well after your surgery. I was really sore around my port site too, it was really hard to get out of bed. It took me about 2-3 weeks to not cringe when I would forget and use my abdominal muscles.

Hello to all of my fellow thirty somethings! I am glad to see we are finally getting to know one another!

Good luck to the new bandsters and those to be banded!

I am 2 years out in August. The band changed my life. I am so glad I am no longer the fat chick I was, but a bit confused now as to who I am. Could be worse though right??

wow... 160 pounds. That's awesome. It's obviously worked for you.

About not knowing who you are... I have a friend that lost 200 pounds with GB. Her personality has completely changed. She's much more outgoing now than she ever was. It's created some issues with her marriage, but I think they are working it out. I am sure you'll figure yourself out too. You've lost a complete person. That has to be a mind altering experience.

I feel like I have a slim person inside of me begging to get out. I hope that she'll get out soon!

I feel like a shell of the person that I was was. I feel like being overweight has taken years of my life from me. I just want to be able to walk up one flight of stairs without being totally out of breath. Most of all, I would like to be able to play with my kids without getting worn out after five minutes. I don't know who I am anymore, either.

30 something Mom of 1 in Missouri here. Just getting started and may have a waiting period while my employer switches insurance companies. We've heard the current company doesn't cover Lap Band, but the new company does - but we'll see! I'm having a consultation and checking insurance anyway.

Looking forward to chatting with folks my age going through the same thing! May need some 30 something hand holding through all this!

Hugs to all

Let's figure it out together then....lol....but as far as playing with the kids I was doing cartwheels (awful fall over ones) with my girls yesterday, I can say honestly I have never done that before and they loved it. It gets better with every pound you loose. Someday you will get to the top of the stairs with no heavy breathing and wonder "hey when did that happen?" Trust me!

bbk - i just realized your having PS soon!!

what are you having done / excited??

i myself going through a odd phase - but enjoying it! i think:rolleyes:

i USE to be the small one (5'1 - 120lbs) among my friends, then gained 75lbs in 7yrs and basically stopped all social outtings. i was just disgusted w/how nothing fit properly - my thighs touching each other - and was constantly self conscious of what i was eating if i was having lunch w/the girls.

i know my friends saw the weight gain & only my closest when alone would bring it up , and offer help to work out , etc. i choose the Lap Band, cause i needed help - diet & exercise weren't working, well they were - but if i had a halt in weightloss; i'd get frustrated & grab a bag of chips.

i am very happy w/the results so far. 20lbs to go & have SO much fun going shopping in my guest closet for my cute clothes i outgrew over the yrs. i have from size 6-16, and it's been fun getting rid of the larger sizes each month.

sat night DH and i had a wedding, where we hadn't seen friends since we were banded (hubby banded same day as me).....it WAS so awesome to be to told how good you look VS the "look" that represented (ooohhh you gained weight)...

....oh and the energy level...WAY up, i'm more active now than when in my 20's

I'm assuming you mean alcohol? If so, I had 3 glasses of white wine Saturday night & was pretty tipsy. And this is coming from someone who could hold her own. I told hubby yesterday I didn't like how I felt & was a little annoyed I couldn't get off the couch & go to the gym.....So, I've turned into a lightweight:wink:

ha - still tipsy i guess.

no, it doesn't feel all that different...but i did sip slowly for the first few wks. when i went onto Soups i got full very fast, so you don't necessarily "feel" the band; you'll know it's there by getting signals that your done with food or drink. not sure that makes sense:tongue:
