Getting first fill, only 25 days post op!

Recommended Posts

I get my first fill today, it is only 25 days post op but my Dr. says I'm doing good and the hunger is just starting in so he is going to do the first fill. I'm 20 pds down pre op and 20 pds post op. so 40 in all. half way to my goal.

Wow that is amazing.... wow..... so u r 230lbs? wow.... that is really good.. It looks like u communicate well with your Dr.. and he or she is pretty smart as well...That is what My Dr. said that he will do adjust when i start to get hungry more often and when i can eat more than a cup of food at one time...

Thank you all!!! I'm so glad I did this. The first two days were very hard, I couldn't urinate and had a catheter put in. Being a recovering addict (five years clean and sober) I didn't take any pain meds. But after two days the cath came out and all things were fine. The healing was better every day. I never cheated on the food plan and so far have not had a PB or any problems. My Doc is real good in my opinion, he has done a couple thousand of these. He tends to evaluate how each patient is doing rather than saying all patients should follow the same time table.

lise, glad to see you got your "restriction." I know you felt pretty good about your first fill and the restriction you had with that fill. But then you noted you weren't feeling "it." I had my first fill 4/17 and definately feel a diff. 2 fried eggs for Breakfast this morning and I feel that sensation of a little tightness in my throat in the area where my collar bones come together at my neck. I would like to think it will last awhile, however my next fill is 5/28. My PA said if i am feeling to "loose" to call and come in sooner, so that is coolio. I also have the 10cc band and currently have 3cc, 2 were added during surgery. Glad to see you are doing well and thanks for the great blog. g2s

Fantastic news!!! Isn't it weird how some people take so much less to feel restriction than others? I mean I'm at like double the ccs as you and that's what i needed to get to restriction! by the way - thank you for the kind words on my blog!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
