There was also another wls called a vertical gastric band, if its that i nearly had it. It involves a ring or band placed at the top of the stomach which is non adjustable. There is also a fair amount of stomach staples that go with it, it is very invasive. I found a pic for you so you can kinda see what I mean.

Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG): Overcoming Obesity Surgical Clinic

The results of the operation are not as good as the adjustable gastric band according to studies. I think the recovery time for this operation would be significantly more than having the lapband due to the fact it is so much more invasive. Also I dont think this operation is normally done with keyhole surgery either so there may be more scaring.

Hope this helps!

Never heard of this doc before.

The non adjustable band is not really used much anymore because the failure rate was so high. I'd think long and hard about getting that one.

I know TriCare offers it, or at least they did as of a few months ago but nobody uses it. It simply does not work.

May I ask what this doctor is charging for this band?

i think 4000

Ohhhh, be careful. Be verrry careful. You get what you pay for in life.

The non adjustable band has a very long history and it's not a nice one. Most do not do well. You are going to a doctor that so far nobody has heard of for a band that has a really bad track record for a price that barely covers expenses.

Be careful here.

tell me more of its history if u dont mind

Just do a Google search on it. There are doctors that actually advertise that they will remove it and replace it with a band that works.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
