OK...umm..so NO sandwhich for me!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all.. so I was banded 03/07 and to date have had one fill and everything seemed to be okay... still getting liquids down with NO prob.. some foods remind me I need to take the time to chew. SOO I had the bright idea to make sandwhich for lunch, Two bites and I thought I was gonna die!!! I am familiar with what its like to have something "stuck" so the feeling was FAMILIAR however this time it didnt pass!! OMG I was freakin out!! the pain was WOW! long story short. I had my first PB?? eww but what was that slime that came up first??? I let out a huge cough and it flew out of my mouth.. NASTY I know!! finally after a few "dry heaves" the bread came up!! AHHH!!! I am not really worried about damage because it wasnt painful to "barf" and its the first time. Should I be worried??? and still would like to know what that "slime" was about!!

~no more bread~!!:D

destynee, It is my understanding that the slime is something our body naturally produces when it's going through the whole digestive process and, in this case, to try to help get the food to pass through. However, because your stoma is so small, it just wasn't going through so it all, slime included, came back up. Hope this helps!

The "slime" is saliva that your body produces as a natural means to try and wash the obstruction down. So now you know: No more bread for you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
