I think I have finally decided to go ahead and have the surgery. I have been going back and forth for the past 1.5 years trying to decide. I have now set an appointment to meet with the surgeon on May 2nd, (of course I hope I don't chicken out again) I am hoping my insurance will not be hard to work with. They said they will cover it but I am hoping they will not find a loop hole and say "no".

Anyone know if Aetna is tough to deal with? I have Aetna open access. I would appreciate your input.

I have been told that since they changes the weight history requirement to only 2 years instead of 5 that they've become much easier to deal with by a surgeon's office.

Doesn't help me, though, my company excludes the surgery. :D

I have Aetna and I hope u have better luck then I did. I started my process of the surgery in August of 07, I did and have done everything I was suppose to do and I still havent got an approval yet. Every month they find something different that I am suppose to do. I am not trying to discourage u, I just hope it is different for u. I go back to the dr on Monday and hopefully this will finally be my last visit. I wish u all the best.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
