Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone I was just doing some thinking and I was wondering, Honestly how many of you here are very happy and very satisfied with your "original" band surgeon and are satisfied with his or hers abilities and aftercare? Whether you went to Mexico or not

I can honestly say that I've been very pleased with my surgeon, his surgical skills, his staff, and his aftercare. They've been there for me every step of the way. I was fortunate to have a local surgeon and easy access. I can't think of anything that I'd want to change. I look forward to a very long and happy relationship with them.

I only wish all bandsters could have the same experience!

Oh how funny you post this... I just posted about my Dr. and staff on the Doctor part of the board. heres what I put......

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do have the best Dr. and Staff... they are so wonderful to me. I have been stressing, nervous, and somewhat scared but Cameron Dr. Smith's asst. has been an angel to me. Im 365miles away from them and He has done everything to make it seem like im next door. If I have a question I email him and he calls me back right away even if he leves a message he will still call back making sure I understand and that he just talks to me. I couldnt ask for better service. I get so much information on LBT and anything I question I ask... every Dr. is diffrent and I go by what my Dr. wants and its nice to know Dr. Smith and Cameron are there for me! So if anyone is in the NM, CO area please go see Dr. Smith.. or PM me with questions. I recommend Dr. Smith and his staff to anyone! they are A++ in my book.
I just thought you all should know!
Thanks<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
I have to say I have been very impressed with my doctor's office and staff. When I first went to them banding was pretty uncommon and we weren't really treated apart from the RNY patients. But a few months in that changed, and now they have separate support groups, NPs who know a lot about banding, and FOUR experienced banding surgeons on staff. I go every month to their new-patient seminars, and each month I come away more impressed with their resources.
It's a big practice and I can easily see that someone very timid might feel a little overwhelmed. But I never had that problem (ya think?) and overall I've had a really wonderful experience.
Oh, and Nana, I know what you mean about the "cold and grumpy" attitude. My docs could almost be accused of the same thing. (Almost!) But I think you're right that they have to be totally realistic and up-front with people considering banding. It's a very different procedure that doesn't have a foolproof weight loss, so they want to be sure patients know what they're in for. It serves everyone well if they're totally honest, and not selling a product.
I am very happy with my Doctor and all of his staff. I can contact them any time and they are prompt getting back with me. I total confidence in my Doctor. My Doctor is very up on everything, and when I ask a question he gives me a straight answer. I wouldn't change Doctors for anything!
I had my surgery in Mexico. I also went for one follow-up visit and a fill. I thought Dr. Kuri was a very caring man. I have had no problems at all with my band (knock on wood) I was also very fortunate to find a local band doctor who would do my follow-up care and fills.
I am happy with both.
I love my lapband doctor! I like him way more than his staff..(but they were all fine as well)
HE was good enough to make up for anything and everything.. HE is amazing, I never met any docter that was so nice and so professional and so personal.
I'm extremely happy with my doctor and his staff, especially, since I was his first patient for this surgery. When I called for an unfill, he said, "that's the lovely thing about this surgery, we can adjust it until it's right for you". I like him a lot, so much he's doing my mother's surgery next week and she's 73.
Okay, I've only been banded for 2 weeks, but I am very, very happy. I was bandded by the same surgeon that did my DH 2 years ago. Thre facility was very, very nice, and the care I recieved was top notch. Unfortunately, I've spent more than my fair share of time in hosptal, and thing was was top notch.
They make everyone feel very special, and they treat my DH like a super star.
I only just say this thread, but, Michelle, how many docs do you know who give you their cell #'s? I too loved Drs. Ortiz & Martinez. When I tell my docs here that I have their cell #'s they look a little nervous, like I'm gonna ask for theirs!
Happy w/Mexico, Happy w/aftercare.
I was banded on the 11th February and have been very happy with how the surgery went and my healing.
I had the op done on public health care so my surgeon is extrewemely busy, but the best in town. I don't feel that I was given enough info on the actual procedure eg I didn't know the band was stitched in place.
Most of the info I have is from this site. There are things I wished I known , but ultimately I think it was my resposibility to do more research . Not that I regret it in any way. I'm just hanging for my second fill because I don't have much restriction.
Take care,
Rachel.
I love my doctor. He is the absolute best. His staff is awesome also. I feel very blessed to have Dr.Fitterman taking care of me. As a bonus, he is very easy on the eyes....a real cutie.
      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
